Hornbill festival in Nagaland becomes major tourist attraction

Nagaland, Dec 24 (ANI): Showing their strength and unity! Members of Angami tribe pulling heavy stones was one of the major attractions during the recently concluded 14th Hornbill festival Kisama Naga heritage village near Kohima. A large number of domestic and foreign tourists, who gathered at the 10-day long gala event, were enthralled by traditional sports, folk dances and ethnic food. Events like a "Chilli" eating competition were the major crowd puller. The winner took away the cash prize of Rs. 20,000. The visitors also enjoyed body tattoo art as two international tattoo artists Heiko Gantenberg from Germany and Mo Naga from Nagaland shared a common platform at the festival. The aim was also to promote the indigenous tattoo art forms. The Hornbill festival has become an international event and attracts large number of tourists. Dec 24, 2014

Produced by a Naga, Rebecca Alemla Changkija the film is expected to be released soon. Hailing from Dimapur, Rebecca has already produced a Bollywood film 'The Dark Secrets of Tonhi' and few others are in the pipeline including '2 a.m. at Lokhandwala', Elena and '16 mm picture'. A fashion designer by profession, Rebecca runs 'Find Studioz', a Production House in Mumbai and her motive is to explore northeast through Bollywood. The only Naga film producer in Bollywood, Rebecca has a dream to capture the Bollywood industry. Her film 'The Dark Secrets of Tonhi' is based on real incidents of black magic practiced by women known as Tonhis in Chhattisgarh and some parts of the northeast. Dec 20, 2014

Tamchon Football Tournament attracts many spectators in New Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 18 (ANI): Thousands of football lovers from the national capital flooded the Dr Ambedkar stadium in Delhi to witness the closing ceremony of the eighth Tamchon Football tournament. A total of 16 teams, comprising of players from the northeast, participated in the tournament to promote peace, friendship and unity among the youth of the country. The final match between Hmar FC and Siamsinpawlpi (SSPP) attracted a large crowd. The event was organized under the aegis of Tanghkul Naga Society, Delhi with support from various government and private agencies. Such events help to make Delhi'ites aware of sporting talent from the Northeast. Hmar FC won by 6-5 over SSPP by penalty goal. The winning team received the winning Trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh while the SSPP FC bagged the runners-up trophy with a cash prize of Rs 3 Lakh. Dec 18, 2014

Arenlong Longkumar, a 5-year-old drumming prodigy from Nagaland

Nagaland, Dec 08 (ANI): He is unstoppable! Playing drum like an expert, Arenlong Longkumar is a child prodigy. Born to Sosang Longkumer and Akokla Imchen in Dimapur, this 5-year-old can beat drums for any genre of music. Along started holding drum sticks at the age of one. He was inspired by his musician father, who runs his own recording studio in Dimapur. Along plays drums at his father's studio. Little Along has performed during many events, including the Hornbill festival. He has also performed with Purple Fusion, a famous Naga music band at the 'World Music Day' celebration in Dimapur. Amazingly, Along can tune his beats for any genre of song like hard rock, soft rock and country music. His success is a source of inspiration for other children. Dec 8, 2014
