Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi wins Nobel Peace Prize 2014

New Delhi, Oct 10 (ANI): Children's rights activists Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan and Kailash Satyarthi of India were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 2014 on Friday. The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced the names of the two "for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education." The award also comes with a $1.24 million check. Yousafzai, now 17, is a schoolgirl and education campaigner in Pakistan who was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman two years ago. Satyarthi, 60, has maintained the tradition of Mahatma Gandhi and headed various forms of peaceful protests, "focusing on the grave exploitation of children for financial gain," the Nobel committee said.

Kabul, Oct 01 (ANI): Two Taliban suicide bombers attacked the Afghan capital on Wednesday, killing at least seven people and wounding more than 15, government officials said, a day after the new government and the United States signed a long-delayed security agreement. Afghanistan's interior ministry said the targets of were an army bus and a vehicle carrying Afghan army personnel. The attack in the west of the city, close to Kabul university, was the more serious of the two. It destroyed an army bus and shattered shop windows, killing at least seven, the defence ministry said. Several people were injured in the attack in the eastern part of Kabul.

New Delhi, Sep 29 (ANI): Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai was sworn in on Monday as Afghanistan's new president, replacing Hamid Karzai in the country's first democratic transfer of power since the 2001 US-led invasion toppled the Taliban. Ghani succeeds Hamid Karzai after a three-month standoff over disputed election results that fuelled tensions with local leaders and worsened Afghanistan's dire economic outlook. Both Ghani and his poll rival Abdullah Abdullah claimed to have won the fraud-tainted June 14 election, plunging Afghanistan into a crisis that threatened to trigger nationwide unrest.
