Kashmir: Army kills 7 militants, recovers arms and ammunition

Kupwara, Feb 26 (ANI): Indian Army recovered large quantities of arms and ammunition from seven militants who were killed during an encounter between the Indian Army and militants in forest area of Kashmir. Security has been beefed up as more militants are believed to be hiding in the forest area. Major General, General Officer Commanding (GOC) Kilo Force, SK Saini said that seven AK series weapons were recovered. On specific information, 18 Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operation Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a cordon and search operation in Dardpora forests of Lolab, Saini added. Saini added that the documents recovered from the dead militants indicated that they belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Feb 26, 2014

Srinagar, Uri Feb 23 (ANI): The beefed up vigil and strict measures taken by security forces have succeeded in controlling infiltration by militants in Jammu and Kashmir, said a senior Army officer. Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh said that elimination of top militants has made a major difference to their activities in the valley. Earlier, a huge cache was recovered by a joint team of army during a search operation launched in the Kamal Kote area of Uri town in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. Bhubaneswar, Feb 22 (ANI): Odisha's law, tourism and culture minister Maheshwar Mohanty, was injured when two unidentified men opened fire at him near his house in Puri. Mohanty, 59, was driving a scooty back home from a function when two miscreants, who were apparently following him on a two-wheeled vehicle, opened fire at him in a narrow lane near Amala Club in the heart of the town at around 8pm on Friday, sources said. The minister sustained a bullet injury on his left arm and suffered head injuries after he fell from the scooty on being fired at. Khajuraho, feb 21 (ANI): The world-renowned Dance Festival began in Khajuraho - the city of ancient temples - in India's central province of Madhya Pradesh, with an aim to promote cultural and traditional dances of the country. Dancers performed several old and traditional Indian dance forms like Bharatanatyam and Odissi attempting to keep the dances alive as a part of our heritage. The dancers described their experience of performing in Khajuraho city, a place famous for its temples with exquisite sex sculptures and paintings, a holy one. Many classical artists were honoured at the festival and young dancers got a platform to showcase their talent. The event saw the presence of various provincial leaders including state culture and tourism minister, Surendra Patwa. Many tourists from other countries also made it to the festival to view and participate in it.The week-long event will see classical dancers performing various dance styles including Kuchipudi, Kathak and Manipuri.
