Srinagar, Jan 28 (ANI): The wreath laying ceremony was being held on Wednesday for martyr Colonel MN Rai in Srinagar, who sacrificed his life while battling a group of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district. Colonel Rai was conferred the Yudh Seva medal by President Pranab Mukherjee on Republic Day for outstanding contribution in planning and conduct of operations including a gun battle with militants. Two militants, two security officials killed in encounter in Kashmir

Pulwama, Jan 27 (ANI): Two militants were killed and an army officer and a police constable martyred on Tuesday (January 27) in an encounter in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. A gun battle broke out between the militants and security forces after the latter launched a cordon and search operation in Tral area on a tip off about the militants. The martyred army officer Colonel MN Rai had been awarded a gallantry award just yesterday. Reportedly, the militants belonged to the outfit Hizbul Mujahideen and some arms and ammunition was also recovered from the place of encounter. Pulwama/ Poonch, Dec 24 (ANI): Supporters of People's Democratic Party (PDP) celebrated the party's success in Jammu and Kashmir elections, results of which were announced on Tuesday. The PDP emerged as the single largest party, bagging 28 seats in the 87-member legislature, brightening its chances of forming a coalition government. No party won enough seats to form a government of its own. PDP candidate from Pulwama constituency, Mohammad Khalil Band said that he will work towards development of his constituency. Jammu and Kashmir, Dec 09 (ANI): Voters queued up at polling stations as voting for third round of the five-phase assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir began on Monday. People braved the extreme cold weather to come out and cast their vote hoping for a good government in the state who look after the issues facing the region. J and K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and three of his cabinet colleagues are among 144 candidates whose fate will be decided in the third phase of polling in 16 seats spread across Budgam, Pulwama and Baramulla districts. Two militants of Hizbul Mujahideen killed in J and K encounter

Pulwama, Oct 03 (ANI): Two militants of separatist outfit Hizbul Mujahideen were killed in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. Reportedly, the security forces got information about the presence of these militants and acted upon it. The militants opened fire while the forces were closing in on the hideout of these militants. Of the two militants killed, one has been identified as Riyaz Naikoo while the other is said to be a top militant of the outfit. Hizbul Mujahideen is a Kashmiri separatist group designated as a militant organisation by India. It is active in Jammu and Kashmir since 1989. Pulwama, Sep 22 (ANI): People waited for relief and help as dozens of houses have collapsed in a village that was devastated by the worst flooding seen in more than a century in Jammu and Kashmir. Both the Indian and Pakistani sides of the disputed Himalayan region have seen extensive flooding this month, with Srinagar particularly hard hit. Hundreds of people have been killed and tens of thousands are homeless. Authorities say the cost of damage in Jammu and Kashmir may run into crores of rupees.
