India eyes extremist groups as threat to Afghanistan's 2014 polls

New Delhi, Jan 18 (ANI): India said that extremist groups trying to deter domestic stability and internal security of Afghanistan are a key threat to the war-torn country's 2014 presidential polls scheduled for April, as the US plans a total pull-out of combat forces by this year end in absence of bilateral security agreement. India's foreign secretary, Sujatha Singh, expressed such views at the meeting of special officers from neighbouring countries of Afghanistan and other international agencies to discuss on 'Istanbul process' in New Delhi. Appreciating the efforts of Afghan President, Hamid Karzai, towards conducting the polls, Singh said the extremist groups could pose a threat to the elections. New Delhi, Jan 16 (ANI): India's fiscal deficit will be contained at 4.8 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the current fiscal year ending March, said finance minister, P Chidambaram, hinting at possible cuts in government spending. The finance minister expressed his "unflinching commitment" to contain the fiscal deficit, at a time when the deficit in the first eight months of the fiscal year has touched 93.9 percent of the full-year target.
