Rajouri, June 25 (ANI): Security arrangements were beefed up for the annual Hindu pilgrimage of Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir to ensure the safety of devotees. Thousands of pilgrims undertake this journey to the shrine cave to worship an ice stalagmite called Shivlinga, believed to be the symbol of Lord Shiva. Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, K. Rajendra Kumar, said they have made elaborate security arrangements to ensure safety of the pilgrims. Srinagar, June 24 (ANI): A complete shutdown is being observed across the valley after the killing of a youth yesterday in Sopore during police firing on protesters. Arshad Ahmad Shah of Seer Jagir in Sopore succumbed to his injuries when security forces fired some shots at protesters. A shutdown call has been given by Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani which is being supported by all other separatists groups. All shops, business establishments, schools, colleges and government offices have been closed and public transport is off the roads. Sopore, June 21 (ANI): Unidentified gunmen barged inside the house of Congress party activist Khazir Mohammad Naikoo in Baramulla district of Kashmir and opened heavy fire upon their family members. In the firing that started around 9:05 pm Friday night, two persons identified as Nazir Ahmad Naikoo, son of Khazir Mohammad and his cousin Shabir Ahmad, suffered critical injuries, and the duo were immediately shifted to Sub-district hospital, where Nazir succumbed to injuries.
