MDMK demands UN probe against Sri Lankan govt

Chennai, Feb 27 (ANI): Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) supporters protested in Chennai against Sri Lanka government and demanded an independent investigation by the United Nations. The UN human rights Chief Navi Pillay called for an international inquiry into war crimes committed by both sides during Sri Lanka civil war, saying the government had failed to do its own credible investigation. Meanwhile, MDMK chief Vaiko alleged that what happened in Sri Lanka was genocide. Pillay recommended an "independent, international inquiry mechanism, which would contribute to establishing the truth where domestic inquiry mechanisms have failed”. Feb 27, 2014
