PM Narendra Modi inaugurates 240 MW Uri-II hydropower project in Kashmir

Baramulla, July 5 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 240 megawatt Uri-II hydropower project in the mountains of Jammu and Kashmir, barely a mile from the Line of Control (LoC), the de facto border dividing Kashmir between India and Pakistan. Modi dedicated the 240 MW Uri-II hydropower project to the nation built by NHPC at a cost of Rs. 2290 crore in Jammu and Kashmir. This is the second power project on river Jhelum in Uri area in Baramulla district and is located downstream of the 480-MW Uri-I project, which is already operational. Earlier in the day, Modi flagged off the inaugural train on a new stretch of railway to the town of Katra to Vaishno Devi. Udhampur, July 04 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi flags off the first train to Katra, which is the base camp of Hindu pilgrimage of Vaishno Devi, from Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. Security has been tightened, with 2300 officials having been deployed along the Srinagar-Uri route in order to avoid any untoward incidents. Authorities have also imposed curfew in old Srinagar city to avert protests or rallies by the separatists.
