Migrants return to Iraq after difficult process in Germany

Some Iraqi migrants, fed up with the long asylum application process, far-right violence and paltry conditions at temporary shelters in Germany, returned back to Iraq on 27 January. Banksys London Les Miserables mural attacks conditions in Calais camp

A mural by British graffiti artist Banksy highlighting the alleged use of tear gas on refugees from the jungle camp in Calais has appeared on a hoarding near the French embassy in London. The stencilled image mimics the logo of the musical Les Miserables, but in Banksys depiction the character Cosette is engulfed by clouds of gas. Calais: Police fire teargas as refugees try to board trucks

A group of about a hundred refugees rushed to the motorway leading to the Eurotunnel on 21 January, in the hope of boarding trucks on their way to the United Kingdom, but were pushed back by police firing teargas at them. Thousands of refugees fleeing war and poverty in Africa and the Middle East have gathered in or near the northern coastal town of Calais over the past year, using it as a stop-over point before trying to enter Britain in the hope of a better life.
