Handwara, July 10 (ANI): A militant was killed in an ongoing gun battle between rebels and India's security forces in Handwara area of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir. In a joint operation launched by state police and the Indian Army, security personnel acted upon information received about presence of four to five militants in Handwara in Kashmir. Mumbai, July 9 (ANI): The first look of _Haider_, a bollywood adaptation of Shakespeare_s famous play, Hamlet, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj was launched by its actors, Shahid Kapoor, K.K. Menon, Tabu and Sharddha Kapoor, and UTV CEO, Siddharth Roy Kapoor, in Mumbai. The film has been shot with the Kashmir conflict as background to it. This film is the third adaptation of a Shakespearean play by Bhardwaj. Previously he has directed _Omkara_, which is an adaptation of Othello and _Maqbool_, which is an adaptation of Macbeth. Bhardwaj again through Haider tries to explore the conflict of human relationships and the negative aspects of it. _Haider_, is scheduled to hit the silver screens across the country on October 02, 2014. Custodian of Chakan Da Bagh Cross Loc Poonch, Bashir Ahmed Loan, said that the facility would allow traders to discuss issues and thus people from both sides would be benefited. The facility has also been hailed by the traders who feel that this would foster communication and benefit traders from both sides. Skardu, July 07: Such protests are widespread on the streets of Gilgit Baltistan. They have been fighting for their basic rights - education, healthcare, food and employment. In Skardu, thousands of people took part in demonstrations for several days to oppose the Pakistan Government’s decision to withdraw the wheat subsidy. The protesters, under the banner of the Awami Action Committee, a constituent of 22 different political, religious and nationalist parties, also demanded an end to colonial rule. Nationalist leader Manzoor Parwana said that Gilgit Baltistan is a disputed area and Pakistan will never succeed in making it a part of its territory. Kathua, July 06 (ANI): Keen volunteers set up community kitchens providing free food, temporary shelter and medical care in a bid to help devotees undertaking the annual Hindu pilgrimage, Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir. President of a religious organisation, Baba Barfani Sewa Mandal, Chander Sheikher Sood, said on Sunday that various kitchens enroute to Amarnath are being run by his volunteers and arrangements for nearly 5,000 pilgrims have been made. Pilgrims said they were happy with the arrangements made for them and their journey was made easier through the efforts of the volunteers. Soaring prices of basic goods such as milk and potatoes lifted retail food inflation in May to 9.4 percent and there have been fears of worse to come with the delayed spread of the monsoon to the grain bowl region of northwest India.
