Maharashtra government involved in sugar scam: Medha Patkar

Pune, Oct 26 (ANI): Social activist, Medha Patkar has blamed the Maharashtra government for the poor condition of co-operative sugar factories saying it was involved in multi-billion sugar scam. Patkar alleged that a multi-billion scam has taken place in the co-operative sugar industry through the sale of 40 co-operative sugar factories to private firms in the state. Speaking to mediapersons, Patkar said that the politicians who are running the co-operative sugar factories first ensured that the factories turned 'sick' and later sold them to private firms run by their own men for a meagre amount. Patkar said the co-operative sector should survive and thrive in Maharashtra, as it has played an important role in the development of the state. Patkar said a high-level judicial probe should to be conducted. Oct 26, 2013
