New shopping complex in Srinagar to rehabilitate displaced Kashmiri shopkeepers

Srinagar, Aug 22 (ANI): Shopkeepers who were displaced due to the construction of a flyover in the area look forward to better days as the Kashmir government rehabilitates them with a new shopping complex in Srinagar city, which promises to be one of the biggest shopping complexes of the valley. The complex was inaugurated by chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah. Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) and Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Company (JKPCC) constructed the shopping complex to rehabilitate the shopkeepers who were displaced due to the construction of Jehangir Chowk- Rambagh expressway corridor. Decorated with the traditional Dajji Diwari (wooden work) look on the outer façade, the two- storey shopping complex at Jehangir Chowk which is estimated to cost Rs 50 crores(500 million), has a floor area of 1,42,000 square feet. Delhi gangrape victims parents condemn Jaitleys remark on rape affecting tourism

New Delhi, Aug 22 (ANI): Delhi Gangrape victim’s parents on Friday condemned Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s remark that Delhi gangrape case has affected tourism in the state. Victim’s father said that Jaitley’s remark is condemnable as he thinks the case to be affecting an industry but does not do anything to solve it. He added that Jaitley should change policies of economy and security in the country in order to attract tourists, not play politics over rape cases. The victim’s mother also condemned Jaitley’s remark saying that if he considers that rape has caused loss to tourism, he should also realize the loss which the incident caused to the family who lost their daughter. One civilian has been injured after a shell hit his home near the LoC. No casualties have been reported. Srinagar, Aug 22 (ANI): For the first time, a special training program was organised for aspiring Hajj pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday (August 21). The two-day orientation program in Srinagar was a joint initiative by the district administration and Hajj Training Forum Bangalore and the State Hajj Committee. Based on the past experiences of pilgrims, the authorities organised the training program, where videos were played to give a real-time feel of the pilgrimage. The pilgrims were directed on what kind of suitcases and handbags to be carried. They were also asked to keep photocopies of passports and were told about the importance of the pilgrimage. Bandipora, Aug 21 (ANI): Police recovered large cache of sophisticated arms and ammunition from a parked car on a roadside in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. Superintendent of Police, Muhammad Shafi, said the weapons were hidden in a vehicle in Bandipora district of the state.
