Four engineering students drown in West Bengal

Bankura, May 19 (ANI): Four engineering students drowned while taking bath in a water barrage in Bankura district of West Bengal. The incident happened when 11 students from B.C. Roy Engineering College went at the Durgapur water barrage. Three students, who have been identified as Aditya Roy, Chandrajit Kumar and Nitish Kumar, drowned while rescuing their fellow Shubham Pankaj, who fell in water and did not know how to swim. Fishermen and police recovered bodies from the water barrage which were sent to Durgapur Bidhannagar Hospital and Bankura Medical College. May 19, 2014

Slow construction work of water pipelines upset Kashmir people

Srinagar, May 18 (ANI): Residents of Jammu and Kashmir remain unhappy with damaged water pipelines and roads in the capital city of Srinagar. Local residents faced inconvenience due to unfinished water pipeline work, due to which the water supply was affected in hotels and households. Over the past few years, the state government started construction work on roads, bridges, drainages and installation of water pipes in Srinagar. But some are still incomplete due to slow work and harsh weather conditions. Authorities in Roads and Buildings (R and B) department say heavy rains resulted in delay of completing works. Fire engulfs factory near Delhi, fire tenders swing into action

Noida, May 18 (ANI): A raging fire engulfed a water jar manufacturing factory in the wee hours of Sunday in Noida and over a dozen fire tenders swung into action to douse the inferno. No causalities or burn injuries have been reported so far. A short circuit is said to have caused the inferno. Fire fighters had to struggle for hours to douse the blaze. Police said over a dozen fire tenders were immediately set in action to ensure that there was not much loss to the property. According to eyewitnesses, the fire suddenly emanated after a blast was heard on the second floor of the factory building. Factory workers said the inferno was uncontrollable at first as a result it spread fast to other floors due to delay in the arrival of fire controlling unit. May 18, 2014

Will consult opposition leaders over Mullaperiyar Dam row: Oommen Chandy

Thiruvananthapuram, May 15 (ANI): Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy said that he would consult opposition leaders over the Mullaperiyar Dam row which has been a bone of contention between Tamil Nadu and Kerala, as he mulls over a review petition in the Supreme Court for solving the issue. On May 07, country’s top court gave the verdict which quashed the law passed by Kerala on Mullaperiyar dam in 2006. A bench headed by Chief Justice RM Lodha quashed the amendments to the Kerala Conservation and Irrigation Act brought in by the Kerala Government in 2006 to restrict the water level to 136 feet. Announcing to mediapersons that the issue would be discussed in the Assembly session, Chandy reiterated that consultations with opposition leaders would be carried out first. May 15, 2014
