Villagers lament loss of crop due to ceasefire violations in Kashmir

RS Pura, Aug 30 (ANI): Villagers in RS Pura district of Jammu and Kashmir lamented the damage to crop amid continuous ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops along the international border. The incessant firing has led to damage to crop in the fields close to the border. Villagers at Abdullian, the last village on the Indian side, said that they were unable to tend to the crops. Bullet marks on buildings have restricted people to their homes. Children are unable to attend regular school as well. Another villager Sewa Ram said he has been staying in one of the many rehabilitation camps that villagers in the region have evacuated to. It has been five days since he moved with his family. Anantnag, Aug 30 (ANI): A policeman sustained injury after firing took place outside a district court in Anantnag District of Jammu and Kashmir. Traders in Kashmir demand boost in cross-border trade with Pakistan

Poonch, Aug 30 (ANI): Traders in Jammu and Kashmir called for increase in cross-border trade between New Delhi and Islamabad. At present, the cross-border trade stands at 850 crore rupees. The two nuclear-armed countries have fought two wars over Kashmir but had sought to ease access and commerce in a region at the heart of more than 60 years of hostility. An approved list of items is traded between both the countries. At present, this list includes 21 items but traders are looking to raise the number of products. The most widely exported crops from the Indian side are bananas, red chili, cumin and tamarind while imports from the Pakistani side include dry fruit and mangoes. Srinagar, Aug 29 (ANI): State assembly of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed mayhem on Friday after a leader of ruling National Conference (NC) party stormed into the well of the House accusing opposition leaders of multi-million land scam. NC legislator Doctor Veeri alleged that patron of regional Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and deputy speaker of legislative assembly, Muhammad Sartaj Madni, were party to a multi-crore land scam in south Kashmir. Chief Secretary M Iqbal Khandey was directed to ascertain the facts over the allegations of a legislator that some opposition party members were encroaching upon government land.
