Flood alert in Kashmir as Jhelum river swells following heavy rain

Jammu and Kashmir, Sep 04 (ANI): The Jammu and Kashmir government has sounded flood alert in the state after three days of incessant rain. Many villages have been inundated and River Jhelum has been flowing four feet above danger mark in Srinagar. The situation is particularly grim in south Kashmir, the police and local administration have rescued dozens of people from the Kulgam district. The villagers were evacuated after the flood water entered their houses and submerged. Meanwhile, a worker trapped in flood water in Kashmir's Ganderbal district was rescued by the team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). Poonch, Rajouri and Reasi - on the Jammu side - and Kulgam and Shopian - both in the valley - have been receiving heavy rain which has affected normal life in these areas. Authorities have deployed over a dozen of Disaster Management and rescue teams in all the districts of Jammu region and water level is being continuously monitored by the flood control rooms. Wazwan is a traditional Kashmiri multi cuisine mostly comprising non vegetarian dishes and relished in Kashmir over centuries. Encouraged by the popularity of Wazwan not just in the valley but across all other states, Mehraj set up a shopping portal where it is made available online. Police on alert for upcoming assembly polls in Kashmir

Kathua, Sep 03 (ANI): Police beefed up security to ensure safe and smooth conducting of assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, said a senior official on Wednesday. While inaugurating a hostel in Kathua district, Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajendra Kumar said with strict vigil of security forces, several elections in the past have taken place peacefully. He added that the upcoming assembly elections will be smooth like the parliamentary elections early this year. He also ensured that security forces are equipped enough to check infiltration as well as retaliate to any ceasefire violations along the international border. Jammu, Sept 03 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met the families affected by Pakistan's ceasefire violations along the international border and promised to amend the existing compensation SRO policy. He expressed regret over the fact that solely militancy affected families get relief funds, and not the ones which also suffer due to cross-border shelling. Abdullah added whoever has borne heavy losses due to damage to their crops because of exchange of fire will also be compensated with free ration for three months. Meanwhile, Abdullah also inaugurated a multi-level parking lot in Jammu. 3D street painting in Kashmir attracts locals as well as tourists

Srinagar, Sep 3 (ANI): In a bid to promote 3D art in India, famed artists converged in Jammu and Kashmir state and painted a street in Srinagar city. Artists said the 3D painting was common in foreign countries and should also be encouraged in India. The 3D street painting event took place at Zabarwan Park on the banks of Dal lake. The unique art initiative was organised by state's tourism department along with an event and sports management company, to attract locals as well as tourists. The street painting was being done by a group of painters from Kerala and Mexico. To spread the knowledge of 3D street painting in India, the group is going to travel from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. The artists made 3D paintings of Kashmiri goats standing in front of a water and the signboard reading 'Kashmir'. Schoolchildren, tourists and locals enthusiastically watched the entire process.
