Jammu, Sep 07 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday gave a review of flood situation in the state. Abdullah said that situation is getting better in Jammu and water level has started to fall down. He said that the government is focusing upon relief work followed by rehabilitation of the rescued people. He then said that situation is worsening in areas of Kashmir where water level has risen up to the level of first floors. He said that Central Government has helped the State with boats for recue and officers have been deployed to assess the situation and focus on the medical facilities is being laid. New Delhi, Sep 07 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday left from New Delhi to review flood situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Modi had called a review meeting on Saturday where Home Minister Rajnath Singh, after touring the flood-affected areas, briefed him. The PMO had said in a statement that after reviewing the situation, the Prime Minister decided to visit Jammu and Kashmir to personally assess the gravity of the situation and understand the problems being faced by the people. In Jammu, the authorities closed four bridges connecting two parts of the city after they suffered damage as River Tawi flowed above the danger mark. Authorities had also declared a disaster alert after two days of heavy rain hit villages across the state, causing the worst flooding in two decades. New Delhi to Katra bound 'Shri Shakti Express' train was forced to halt at the Ramnagar railway station in Udhampur district of the state. Passengers said since the train has stopped the authorities have not done much to improve the situation. The services of this train were started in July to facilitate the pilgrims visiting Vaishno Devi. Authorities declared a disaster alert in the northern region after two days of heavy rain hit villages across the Kashmir valley, causing the worst flooding in two decades. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, said that the floods have so far claimed nearly 100 people, as rivers in the region flow above danger mark due to incessant rains. During a rescue operation, rescuers recovered the bodies of at least 50 members of a wedding party aboard an ill fated bus that was washed away by flash floods. A local, Farooq Ahmad, told that the administration has not taken concrete steps to drain the flood water out of residential areas. It Happens: 3D street painting in Kashmir attracts locals as well as tourists

Srinagar, Sept 5 (ANI): In a bid to promote 3D art in India, famed artists converged in Jammu and Kashmir state and painted a street in Srinagar city. Artists said the 3D painting was common in foreign countries and should also be encouraged in India. The 3D street painting event took place at Zabarwan Park on the banks of Dal lake. The unique art initiative was organised by state’s tourism department along with an event and sports management company, to attract locals as well as tourists. The street painting was being done by a group of painters from Kerala and Mexico. To spread the knowledge of 3D street painting in India, the group is going to travel from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. The artists made 3D paintings of Kashmiri goats standing in front of a water and the signboard reading ‘Kashmir’. Schoolchildren, tourists and locals enthusiastically watched the entire process. Kashmir, once dubbed the Switzerland of the east was once heaven for skiers, honeymooners and film-makers who were drawn to its soaring peaks, fruit orchards and timber houseboats on the Dal lake in capital Srinagar.
