Thousands left homeless as landslide ravages Poonch in Kashmir

Poonch, Sep 11 (ANI): A major landslide in Poonch district of Kashmir trapped many and rendered thousands homeless. The landslide, attributed to heavy rains, has disconnected the area from the rest of the state and is posing a major threat to relief and rescue operations. Indian Army, which is carrying out rehabilitation and restoration work in the valley, say work is in progress on a war footing to restore the line of communication. Meanwhile, Army constructed an iron bridge in Poonch district of the state after the previous bridge, an important connectivity, was damaged by the floods. Sep 11, 2014

Rail Minister gives order to help J&K flood victims, ministry to send 50 lakh water bottles daily

New Delhi, Sep 11 (ANI): ADG Public Relations, Indian Railways, Anil Saxena on Thursday said that Railway Minister DV Sadananda Gowda has given orders to the ministry to help Jammu & Kashmir flood victims in all possible way. Saxena also said that Katra-Udhampur rail connectivity, which had been affected by the floods in Jammu and Kashmir, is back to normal. He said that the ministry have established transit pint and nodal at New Delhi railway station. Rajouri, Sep 11 (ANI): Medical camps were organized to assist flood-affected people as flood water began to recede, giving rescue teams a chance to evacuate thousands of villagers stranded by the heaviest rainfall in 50 years in the heavily militarized and disputed region of Kashmir. The Indian army established medical camps in flood-affected villages to treat injured and sick people and also distributed medicines.
