Kolkata holds peace walk to commemorate victims of Pakistan school attack

Kolkata, Dec 21 (ANI): Various non-governmental organisations and schools participated in 'Walk for Peace' in Kolkata on Sunday (December 21) to commemorate the victims of Taliban attack on a school in Pakistani city of Peshawar. At least 132 students and nine staff members were killed on December 16 when Taliban gunmen broke into the school and opened fire, in the bloodiest massacre the country has seen for years. After the attack, the Taliban had declared that all of those children deserved to die because they were part of the military establishment. The incident has given rise to an unprecedented outpouring of grief, anger and tribute paying ceremonies across the country. The attack on a military-run high school, struck at the heart of Pakistan's military establishment, an assault certain to enrage the country's powerful army. Dec 21, 2014

School Children from India writes letter to Pak PM Nawaz Sharif over rising militancy

Vadodara, Dec 21 (ANI): Around 700 school children wrote a letter to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif urging him to take action against militants in the wake of Taliban school attack in Peshawar city earlier this week, in which 132 children were killed. Hundreds of schoolchildren from the Vadodara city of Gujarat were seen writing letters to Sharif. The Taliban, waging war against Pakistan in order to topple the government and set up an Islamic state, immediately claimed responsibility for the deadly school attack. After the attack, the Taliban declared that all of those children deserved to die because they were part of the military establishment. A student, Sheikh Noor Begum said that in her letter she requested to the Pakistan PM to stop militancy and expected that with the help of these letters he will be further forced to act. Pakistan executes two convicted militants after lifting moratorium on the death penalty

Rawalpindi, Dec 20 (ANI): Pakistan hanged two militants as it began executing those on death row in the wake of the moratorium on the death penalty being lifted following the Peshawar school attack where more than 130 children lost their lives. The hanged militants had no links to the Taliban's assault in the city of Peshawar on Tuesday, but their executions came at a time when a shocked Pakistani society is piling pressure on the government to do more to stem escalating violence. Pakistan lifted a moratorium on the death penalty after the attack and Mohammed Aqeel and Arshad Mehmood were the first prisoners reported hanged under the new arrangements. The announcement of their deaths came just hours after the UN human rights office appealed to Pakistan to refrain from resuming executions, saying this would not stop terrorism and might even feed a "cycle of revenge".
