Kashmir flood victims urge government to start rehabilitation work

Rajouri, Oct 20 (ANI): Flood victims in Jammu and Kashmir urged the Central government to start rehabilitation work in the devastated valley on a war footing. Residents had pinned hopes on Modi government for help in bringing the flood ravaged state of Jammu and Kashmir back on track. A legislator of Rajouri region, Choudhary Zulakar Ali, appealed to the Central government to look into the matter seriously. Both Indian and Pakistani sides of the state have seen extensive flooding last month with Srinagar particularly hard hit. Hundreds of people have been killed and tens of thousands are homeless. A flood victim, Abdul Rasheed, also urged the government to rehabilitate the displaced people in the region. Many complain that the government has left them to their fate. Authorities say the cost of damage in Jammu and Kashmir may run into crores of rupees. Oct 20, 2014

NCP leader Majid Memon said that this statement over Kashmir was also made by the predecessors of Bilawal Bhutto but it has no meaning. Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that Bhutto is an immature leader and he is making such remarks just to gain people's confidence. J and K hospitals get solar power plants

Ganderbal, Oct 20 (ANI): In an attempt to provide 24x7 health care facilities available on all public health care centers, the government installed solar power plants in the hospitals in Ganderbal, some 37 kms from Srinagar city in Jammu and Kashmir. The plant which is charged by the sunlight provides regular electricity to the hospital. The plant has been installed at the cost of rupees 43 lakhs with the funding from the central government. Doctors say that they are now able to run the operation theater round the clock and are ready to take up any emergency. The locals are happy as they are getting round the clock health facilities and other procedures. The government is planning to install this solar system in other hospitals as well. Oct 20, 2014

Bollywood comes together for Kashmir Flood Victims

New Delhi, Oct 19 (ANI): From Aamir Khan to Farhan Akhtar, Anupam Kher to Vivek Oberoi along with several other film and music personalities joined hands for a special concert 'Hum Hain Umeed-e-Kashmir' to raise funds for the flood victims of Kashmir and Assam in New Delhi. The concert was an initiative of the entertainment industry led by the Event and Entertainment Management Association (EEMA), the Film and Television Producers Guild and Zee Media. Voicing their concerns over the issue, stars urged people to make their contribution in whatever way possible. The state of Jammu and Kashmir is one of the major suppliers of dry fruits in India. Farmers remained the worst hit due to the massive floods in Kashmir as stagnant water in their agricultural fields damaged crops and affected the yield. Diwali, which will fall on October 23 this year, is celebrated with great fervour and gaiety all over India. Srinagar, Oct 18 (ANI): Protesters in Srinagar took to streets on Saturday demanding that the state assembly elections be postponed and first priority be given to the people who have lost their homes and property in the recent floods. The devastation due to floods has also put the state assembly in a dilemma about holding the assembly elections scheduled to take place in December this year. Officials of the Election Commission of India, including the Chief Commissioner, VS Sampath and two commissioners, HS Brahma and Naseem Zaidi, are in the state on a two-day visit to survey the flood-ravaged state and review whether polls can be conducted as scheduled. Pakistan occupied Kashmir refugees in India welcome financial help

Poonch, Oct 18 (ANI): Refugees from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) lauded state government of Jammu and Kashmir for providing them with financial help of Rupees 9,096 crore with Rupees 25 lakh being distributed to each family. Nearly 36,000 families are presently registered as PoK refugees. A refugee from PoK, Gurmeet Singh, hailed the decision and said that financial aid will work as oxygen for downtrodden. Meanwhile, chairman of SOS International PoK Refugee Organisation, Rajeev Chunni, declined to accept the financial aid as one time settlement plan and questioned the government's intention in calling it as a final settlement.
