Central govt deploys additional forces in strife-torn Manipur

Imphal, Sep 06 (ANI): NDA government deployed additional forces in strife torn northeastern Manipur state in wake of the road blockade called by a Naga group. Home Ministry rushed additional forces to assist the local administration and a top official to take stock of the rising tension. The additional paramilitary forces were sent to Manipur to be deployed along the national and state highways to ensure law and order in the state. Earlier, Rajnath Singh had reviewed the situation with Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and discussed preventive measures to ameliorate hardship of the people of Manipur. Shutdown in Manipur continues for second day

Manipur, Sep 05 (ANI): Security has been stepped up as shutdown called by United Naga Council (UNC), in Manipur entered second day on Friday (September 05), to protest against recent killings of civilians by security forces. On August 30, two civilians were killed and 26 injured in violent police firing to control a rally protesting against the imposition of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) 144 in Ukhrul district. The resolution to impose a ban in the state was passed on Monday (September 01) after UNC President, L Adani, convened a high level meeting with representatives of Naga Civil Organisations and chiefs of different Nagaland tribes. Superintendent of Police, Ishak Shah, said till now the shutdown was peaceful but they feared students association might come out and obstruct vehicular movement on national highway. Sep 5, 2014

Golaghat, Aug 23 (ANI): Normalcy returned to violence-hit Golaghat district of Assam as residents came out of their houses to buy essential commodities on Saturday. Assam and neighbouring Nagaland are locked in a territorial dispute, claiming tracts of land along the state limits since the creation of Nagaland more than four decades ago. The latest wave of violence has left at least 20 dead and forced thousands to flee their homes. Vehicles were plying on road and shops were opened as the local authorities have lifted curfew in the district. Manipur, Aug 16 (ANI): People in Manipur are shocked by the United Naga Council’s move to impose 10-day-long ban on national project in the state including the Trans-Asian Railway Network, NHPC, Power Grid and National highways. The bandh has been called to demand for the withdrawal of security personnel and lifting of prohibitory orders under CrPC 144 that was imposed in Ukhrul district following the assassination of an ADC member of Ukhrul.
