Srinagar, Nov 08 (ANI): A micro power project is under construction in Jammu and Kashmir to resolve the problems of electricity supply and generate employment for the locals. A private company is investing into power project in Baramulla district by mobilising water resources of the Kashmir valley, which after completion would generate 8 MW of electricity supply to the adjoining villages. The residents welcomed the project which would resolve problems of power outages. Power to be restored in Kashmir after days of restoration work

Poonch, Nov 08 (ANI): The power department of Jammu and Kashmir has started working on restoration work of power supply after the valley was destroyed in the recent floods. Hundreds of people were killed and thousands of villages were devastated by the worst flooding in decades in the Kashmir valley in September. Meanwhile, an executive engineer of Electricity Division in Poonch district, Mohammad Maqbool Nayak, said that one of the transformers in the area was damaged, which led to power crisis in the area. He further said they had borrowed power from Rajouri district and are working on installing another transformer to meet the requirements. He also added that the power supply in Poonch will be restored to 95 percent in another 10 to 15 days. Nov 8, 2014

J&K state authorities set up voter awareness camps for Army personnel ahead of assembly polls

Leh, Nov 08 (ANI): State authorities in Jammu and Kashmir set up voter awareness camps for Army personnel in order to reduce the number of invalid votes. The first of its kind initiative named ‘Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation Plan (SVEEP)’, starting prior to the assembly polls in the state, will help Army personnel get informed about the procedure of postal ballot. Speaking to mediapersons, District Magistrate of Leh, Simrandeep Singh Gill said that similar camps have previously been organised for civilians during elections, but it is for the first time for Army personnel. Petting birds has become a new fad among Kashmiris, who are thronging various pet shops of Srinagar to buy colourful winged birds like doves, parrots and pigeons. People are purchasing birds so that they can spend some time with the pet to relieve their stress, caused due to office, studies and circumstances in Kashmir. A customer, Mushtaq Ahmad, said keeping bird as a pet is the best hobby to avoid all type of anxieties. Bhubaneswar, Nov 7 (ANI): Theatre artists from across the country converged in Odisha to take part in a five-day national theatre festival. The festival, Purva Ranga, or 'Colours of the East', which is concluding today, attracted many spectators to Bhubaneswar city. President of Odisha Natya Sangh, Dhira Mallik, said that they had organised this festival with an aim to portray artists on national level. The festival was organised by Odisha Sangeet Natak Academy under the aegis of state tourism and culture department in collaboration with Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, Kolkata. Amritsar, Nov 7 (ANI): Devotees thronged holy Sikh shrine Golden Temple in Amritsar city of India's northern state of Punjab on Thursday to mark the 545th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikh faith. Thousands of regular devotees and pilgrims from far and near converged at the Golden Temple to pay obeisance to the holy book Guru Granth Sahib, light candles and offer prayers for the well being of their families. A devotee, Gurvinder Singh, said people from far off places visit the holy temple to seek blessings for a better future. Fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Das, was known for his humility, service, and deep devotion. He founded the city of Amritsar and designed the Golden Temple. On this particular day, revered as the most auspicious, devout Sikhs and even others from across the world throng Golden Temple to take holy dip on the occasion of Sikh festival Gurpurab. Meanwhile, in Poonch district of northern state of Jammu and Kashmir, devotees took part in a procession where the youths displayed their capabilities in martial arts. The petitioner in the case, Bhim Singh said that he filed a supplementary petition in the court and that huge loss has been incurred by the state in the wake of the disaster. He alleged that state chief minister Omar Abdullah is coming in the way of providing relief to the victims of flood. Kashmir's electoral office organizes voter awareness camp to ensure record polling

Kathua, Nov 07 (ANI): The district administration in Jammu and Kashmir organized a voter awareness camp in Kathua district recently to ensure maximum participation in the upcoming polls. The assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in five-phases, beginning on November 25 and ending on December 20. The counting of votes will take place on December 23. One of the participants, Kuldeep Kumar, said vote is our right and most of the people do not know the value of voting and may ignore the election process. The awareness camp was part of "Matdaan Mahotsav"– a two-month long campaign under Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), aimed to launch various campaigns and activities at village level. Police detain youth for wearing t-shirt with ISIS logo

Dhanbad, Nov 06 (ANI): Police in Jharkhand detained a youth after his photos wearing a t-shirt with ISIS written on it emerged in a local daily. The boy was wearing a t-shirt that read 'ISIS Pakistan' during Ashoura procession on Tuesday (November 04) in Dhanbad city. As per media reports, the police have also detained the man who printed the t-shirt and relative who gave it to him. The boy claimed that he was preparing for a skit displaying resistance against the Islamic State and Pakistan. Officer in-charge of Dhanbad's Jharia police station, Vishnu Rajak, said they were investigating terror links in this matter. Last month, flags and banners of ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) made their debut in Kashmir valley, weeks after al-Qaeda announced the formation of an Indian branch, aiming to rouse the world's third largest Muslim population into action.
