A land of religious diversity, the state, from centuries, has witnessed people celebrating, participating and offering services in each other's fairs and festivals. This ethos comes alive during the annual fair at Shankpal Temple in Ramban district of Jammu. The temple attracts devotees belonging to different communities in large number from across the region. Every year people offer prayers and perform various rituals with utmost devotion and faith. More bodies recovered after boat carrying migrants sinks near Libya

Tripoli, Aug 24 (ANI): The Libyan coast guard recovered more bodies after a wooden boat carrying up to 200 migrants sunk just one kilometer off the Libyan coast, with most passengers feared drowned. The local coast guard said it had no boats of its own and had to commandeer fishing vessels in a rescue attempt after fishermen raised the alarm on Saturday morning. The small boat crammed with between 150-200 migrants sank late on Friday near Qarabouli, east of Tripoli. Local fishermen raised the alarm at dawn on Saturday morning and the coast guard managed to rescue 16 migrants who were still alive in the water. Aug 24, 2014

The houses located on the banks on river Ganga are submerged due to the rise in its water level in Kanpur city. In Faizabad district also, floods have disrupted normal life of people and left many without any shelter. Irom Sharmila arrested again by police in Manipur on charges of attempting suicide

Manipur, Aug 22 (ANI): A struggling and screaming Irom Sharmila was dragged away from a tin shack by a team of police women on Friday morning. Sharmila, who was released from police custody on Thursday evening, was planning to observe a fast at the venue over a demand for the withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA). She has been arrested again on charges of attempting suicide. Earlier, the police women were quoted by media, as saying that they were taking her for a medical check-up. When she resisted, they forcibly took a hold of her hands and legs and carried her to a police jeep and drove her away. Forty-two-year-old Sharmila has said that she is continuing with her 14-year fast in protest against "army atrocities" in Manipur. The activist was released after a court decided she cannot be charged with attempted suicide for refusing food and water. Aug 22, 2014
