Srinagar, Nov 16 (ANI): Tourists flocked Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday to enjoy autumn season in the valley as fallen crimson Chinar leaves covered streets. Dotted with Chinar trees mainly, Kashmir adores a unique look during this season as the leaves turn red before they fall. Director of Floriculture department Sunil Mishra said tourists flock Kashmir during this season as they love to experience sound of fallen leaves as one walks on it. The tourism industry has again picked up after the worst flooding, which hit the state in September, as tourists from across the world have started visiting the valley. Mehboob Beigh decides to quit NC, says party cannot counter BJP

Anantnag, Nov 16 (ANI): In a major setback to the ruling National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir, senior party leader Mehboob Beigh on Sunday withdrew his candidature and decided to support main opposition Peoples Democratic Party Patron Mufti Mohammad Syeed. Beigh said that he considers BJP as RSS and that in order to stop such ideologies from coming to the state, he will support Mufti. He also alleged that the NC cannot counter the BJP and thus his decision to join hands with Mufti is for the welfare of the state. He also expressed displeasure on NC for not inviting any leaders from South Kashmir constituency to any parliamentary or board meetings. Roadshow promotes tourism between India, Bangladesh

Agartala, Nov 16 (ANI): A four-day road show, 'Maitri Tourism 2014', kicked off in Agartala to promote tourism between India and Bangladesh. The event is being organised by Bangladesh Foundation for Tourism Development and Bangladesh Inbound Tour Operators Association in collaboration with Tripura Tourism Development Forum and Tripura Tourism Development Corporation. A seminar took place to discuss the sub-regional tourism circuit linking India's northeast, Bangladesh and Myanmar, and the land routes linking the capital cities of Dhaka and Agartala. A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Secretary Subhas Das said tourism is among the most flourishing sectors in the world and plays a significant role in generating employment. Students in Kashmir demand bridge construction as they have to cross river on boat to reach school

Rajouri, Nov 16 (ANI): School children in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir risk their lives to go to a school by crossing a river as there is no bridge over it. Students in Nadpur Dhallian village cross River Manawar on a boat everyday to get to their schools while locals also have to go by same mode to get to the other side. People complain that even after repeated complaints, the administration did not construct a bridge. A school teacher, Isher Singh said that if a bridge is built, more children would come from nearby villages to attend school. Singh also said that many parents feared sending their children to school as there were several incidents of children and villagers getting swept away or drowning in the river water. Meanwhile, the assembly polls in the state are scheduled to take place from November 25 and the five-phased elections will conclude on December 20. Counting of votes will take place on December 23. Two militants shot dead in Kashmir

Kulgam, Nov 14 (ANI): Security forces gunned down two militants after a prolonged encounter in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday morning. Acting on a tip-off, security forces launched a search operation at Chounigam village in Kulgam district to nab militants hiding in a house on Thursday evening. The militants opened fire upon the approaching soldiers, who retaliated triggering a gunfight. Later, the bodies of the militants were recovered from the house.
