Incessant rainfall trigger flood in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar/ Kokrajhar, Aug 29 (ANI): Incessant rainfall for the past couple of days has triggered landslides and floods in several parts of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. The state's Lohit District is said to be the worst affected by the floods and landslides. Road communication, water and power supply, standing crops and houses are in a poor state. After making aerial surveillance of the affected regions, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju said that lot of damage has been caused due floods. Meanwhile, Flood water from river Brahmaputra inundated major parts of a wildlife sanctuary, Kaziranga National Park (KNP) and rose to danger level in many areas of Kokrajhar district of Assam. Modak Ingredients For Dough Rice flour - 1 cup A pinch of Salt Hot Water - 1 cup Ghee For Filling A little Water Jaggery - 1 cup Grated fresh Coconut - 1 cup A few Cardamom pods Method: 1. To make the dough, add salt to rice flour and knead a dough with hot water. 2. For the filling: take a little water in a pot, and add jaggery to it and let it melt. After it melts, strain the jaggery syrup to remove impurities. 3. Add the coconut to the strained jaggery syrup. Pound some fresh cardamom and add it. 4. Cook it till all the moisture evaporates and it reaches a thick consistency. Let is cool. 5. Take a little dough and make a round ball by rolling it. Grease your palm, either with ghee or oil. Flatten the dough, place some filling in the center and close it from all sides sealing it. It should look like a dumpling. 6. Make a bunch of these, place it in the steamer and steam the modak for about 10-15 minutes. Remove from steamer and serve. Breach in embankment submerges villages in Cooch Behar

Cooch Behar, Aug 28 (ANI): Breach of embankment of river Kalyani submerged several villages in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal forcing people to leave for safer places as flood water streamed through hearth and home. The incessant rainfall and flood resulted in loss of property in the villages of Natabari, Chilakhana and Bhuchumari. The overflow of river water also damaged acres of farmland. Similar conditions prevailed in Siliguri town in Darjeeling district of the state which received 150mm rainfall on August 26 which triggered a flood-like situation disrupting normal life. Aug 28, 2014
