Srikakulam, Sep 08 (ANI): Rising water levels triggered by heavy rains caused floods in Andhra Pradesh leaving nearly 300 people stranded. State Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday directed Ministers and officials to take up prompt rescue and relief measures wherever necessary. Gaurav Uppal, the District Magistrate of Srikakulam district that is badly hit, visited some of the flood-affected areas along with his team to monitor the situation. He also spoke to the affected residents to understand the state of affairs. Uppal said incessant rainfall in neighbouring Odisha on Saturday caused water levels to rise in the Vamsadhara River. Flood waters inundate farmlands in border villages of Punjab

Gurdaspur, Sep 08 (ANI): Dozens of border villages and farmlands were inundated due to floodwaters in Gurdaspur district of Punjab, while 18 people including children have been rescued. These villages across river Ravi remained cut off following flooding of the Basanter Nullah near the Pakistan borders. The incessant rains in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab have created havoc when the river waters breached embankments on the Indian side and the flow of water increased sharply. Meanwhile, Indian army teams conducted rescue operations and saved 18 people who were stuck in the flooded areas. Evacuation is being carried out. Srinagar/ Jammu, Sep 07 (ANI): The worst flooding in Jammu and Kashmir, in the last 60 years, wreaked havoc in Srinagar city on Sunday as residents blamed the state government for not doing much, especially for tourists. Although heavy rains stopped on Saturday afternoon, flood waters rose sharply overnight in Srinagar, a city of 900,000, catching many people living in low-lying areas unawares. About 22 air force helicopters and four aircraft were deployed to evacuate stranded people and to deliver relief. About 120 army units and eight teams of police reservists, equipped with boats and life jackets, were in action. He said that Central Government has helped the State with boats for recue and officers have been deployed to assess the situation and focus on the medical facilities is being laid. In Jammu, the authorities closed four bridges connecting two parts of the city after they suffered damage as River Tawi flowed above the danger mark. Authorities declared a disaster alert in the northern region after two days of heavy rain hit villages across the Kashmir valley, causing the worst flooding in two decades. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, said that the floods have so far claimed nearly 100 people, as rivers in the region flow above danger mark due to incessant rains. During a rescue operation, rescuers recovered the bodies of at least 50 members of a wedding party aboard an ill fated bus that was washed away by flash floods. A local, Farooq Ahmad, told that the administration has not taken concrete steps to drain the flood water out of residential areas. Srinagar, Sept 5 (ANI): In a bid to promote 3D art in India, famed artists converged in Jammu and Kashmir state and painted a street in Srinagar city. Artists said the 3D painting was common in foreign countries and should also be encouraged in India. The 3D street painting event took place at Zabarwan Park on the banks of Dal lake. The unique art initiative was organised by state’s tourism department along with an event and sports management company, to attract locals as well as tourists. The street painting was being done by a group of painters from Kerala and Mexico. To spread the knowledge of 3D street painting in India, the group is going to travel from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. The artists made 3D paintings of Kashmiri goats standing in front of a water and the signboard reading ‘Kashmir’. Schoolchildren, tourists and locals enthusiastically watched the entire process.
