Ajit Singh meets injured protesters in hospital, asks govt to push up CC Singh memorial issue

New Delhi/ Ghaziabad, Sep 19 (ANI): RLD Chief Ajit Singh on Friday reached the hospital in Ghaziabad where his supporters who got injured during a protest yesterday are admitted. Singh visited to meet the injured supporters of the party. Earlier on Thursday, about 200 Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and Bharatiya Kishan Union workers blocked traffic on National Highway-58 and tried to disrupt the water supply from Muradnagar to Sonia Vihar in Delhi. Singh said that it should be seen that the issue is pushed forward by the government. Meanwhile, Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said that any government building cannot be turned into memorial as per the Supreme Court's order. He also said that Congress should have addressed the issue during their tenure. Reacting on the same, Singh said that Naidu should look at other such instances. Sep 19, 2014

Srinagar, Sep 19 (ANI): Hundreds of evacuees boarded Indian army vehicles to leave flooded region of Jammu and Kashmir. More than 75,000 people were still in partly submerged homes in Srinagar, where roads have been transformed into stagnant canals strewn with wreckage, trash and dead animals. The Indian army has deployed about 30,000 troops for rescue and relief operations and soldiers distributed 2,24,000 litres of water and food to survivors. A senior official of India's paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF), PV Sandhu, said they would urge the government to provide transportation facilities to the flood victims. The authorities also dug a tunnel to dewater the parts of the city and let water flow back into the Jhelum River or out of the city. Sep 19, 2014

Migrant workers and poor people say they are all still struggling for basic amenities like safe drinking water, food packets and blankets. More than 3,000 families from Gujarat are based in the valley. Most of the bread earners of these families work as menial labourers. The flood victims demanded Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to take initiative to send them back to their hometown as the floods and threats of Kashmir natives cause misery to them. Srinagar/Kathua, Sep 18 (ANI): Migrants hailing from Gujarat cried out for help as widespread mayhem caused by floods in Jammu and Kashmir has left many stranded. Residents stranded for days by the floodwaters said that the army has selectively evacuated tourists and people according to a pre-set priority list, leaving locals to be rescued later by volunteers. Migrant workers and poor people say they are all still struggling for basic amenities like safe drinking water, food packets and blankets. A woman migrant, Geeta, living in a makeshift hut inside a camp set up by paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF), said they had nowhere to go since their houses submerged in flood waters. Ghulam Nabi Azad visits flood-affected areas, says state will provide full financial aid

Reasi, Sep 17 (ANI): Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday visited Reasi region of flood-ravaged Kashmir and said the state will provide full financial support to the flood-victims. Azad interacted with flood survivors and surveyed the damaged areas and said that state government will provide free ration to flood survivors for at least six months. Authorities say the cost of damage in Jammu and Kashmir may run into crores of rupees. Azad added that more than half of the Kashmir is still submerged in water. The central government delivered 25 water filtration plants with the capacity to filter 400,000 litres a day, and 13 tonnes of water purification tablets. More than 75,000 people were still trapped in partly submerged homes in Srinagar. One of the major tourist attractions in Srinagar, Dal Lake, where tourists come and stay in houseboats, also remained flooded.
