Tourists were seen throwing snowballs on each other as mercury dipped further with the snowfall. Several parts of Himachal Pradesh have also received snowfall that resulted in intense cold wave. Meanwhile, icy cold winds also swept through temple town of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, and intense fog affected normal life and train schedules. Indian Army observes Victory Day in JandK

Srinagar, Dec 16 (ANI): Indian army on Tuesday commemorated Victory Day and paid respects to the soldiers killed in the 1971 war against Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir. December 16 marks the 45th anniversary of the 1971 IndiaPakistan war, the first war the Indian army had won after World War-II. General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Kashmir-based 15 Corps of the Indian army, Lieutenant General Subrata Saha, paid his respects to the soldiers by laying a wreath at a memorial and said the nation won the war after many sacrifices. Saha said that to mark the day some events have been organised to honour and preserve the contribution of the deceased soldiers. Meanwhile, in Nagrota town in Jammu district, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Kashmir-based 16 Corps of the Indian army, Lieutenant General KH Singh, also paid tribute to the soldiers. New Delhi, Dec 14 (ANI): Deputy Election Commissioner of India Vinod Zutshi on Sunday said that overall voter turnout in the fourth phase of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir is 49 percent. The 18 Assembly constituencies in the state went to fourth phase of polls today to decide fate of 182 candidates. Talking about the two clashes in the state during the polls, Zutshi said that the clash between PDP and Congress worker was a minor one and was far from the polling stations. Referring to brawl between BJP's candidate and a voter, Zutshi said that the police have filed a FIR in the case and that investigation is on. Srinagar, Dec14 (ANI): Residents of Jammu and Kashmir held a protest on Sunday (December 14) for not being allowed to cast their vote after being asked to show their identification card which they lost in the recent floods. The fourth phase of polling is taking place in 18 constituencies of the state including the main cities of Srinagar and Jammu as residents brave the cold to come out and vote for change and development. A voter said that even after showing the slip, they are not allowed to vote. Hundreds of people were killed and thousands of villages were devastated, including Srinagar, in September by the worst flooding in decades in the Kashmir valley. Meanwhile, a planning officer, Masood Ahmad Khan said that they are just following the instructions given by the election commission.
