Guwahati, Dec 31 (ANI): Guwahati, known as the gateway to Northeast, has become a growing hub for trade and commerce activity. In the last few years, the city has witnessed a mushrooming of shopping malls, showrooms, apartment complexes and hotels. The changing face of the city coupled with an expanding tourism sector is attracting many investors. Recently, the first 5-star hotel in the region, Radisson Blu, was officially inaugurated. The hotel group is prospecting to open hotels in the state capitals of Northeastern states. With a booming economy and a steadily growing tourism sector, the hotel industry will only expand further. Three more 5-star category hotels are coming up in Guwahati city. The growth of hospitality sector has also opened new job avenues for the youth in the region. Dec 31, 2014

Hill resort of Shimla gears up for tourist rush

Shimla/Manali, Dec 31 (ANI): Authorities in Shimla have stepped up security arrangements in view of an unprecedented rush of revellers for the New Year celebrations. People have been thronging several tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh, but capital Shimla has recorded the maximum footfall. Deputy Commissioner of Shimla district administration, Dinesh Malhotra, said additional 200 police and home guards have been deployed to prevent any untoward incident. The snow-bound region is the favourite destination of the tourists from the plains of northern India. Hoteliers are expecting a good business this season after authorities lifted travel advisories following improvement in weather. The state tourism department is organizing an annual winter carnival in the first week of next year in a bid to attract tourists. New Delhi, Dec 30 (ANI): Political leaders on Tuesday welcomed the PDP's suggestion of a 'grand alliance' in Jammu and Kashmir with National Conference (NC) and the Congress. Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that this is the only option for development of the state. NCP leader Tariq Anwar said that it is good for JandK that all secular parties cam together to form government. Regional parties too welcomed the alliance. Meanwhile, BJP Spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao said that any attempt to form a government in the Jammu and Kashmir without its inclusion will be a travesty of the mandate given by the people of the state. New Delhi, Dec 29 (ANI): Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has released a video accusing Pakistan army of using youth for 'blood game' during war of Liberation in 1971 and also various proxy wars against Kashmir. TTP has also asked the Pak army officials to join them in a war against the Pak army which has always attacked Mujahideens. The video purportedly of its senior Commander Adnan Rashid, a former Pakistan Air Force official who was involved in an attack on ex-dictator Gen Pervez Musharraf, calls upon the soldiers of Pakistani Army to join the TTP listing the atrocities committed by the force including "killing of millions" and "raping of own sisters" during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. Defence Expert Commodore (Retd) Ranjit B Rai said that Pakistan is not in a condition to bear another attack by TTP. Shimla, the summer capital during the British Raj, witnesses a rush of tourists during Christmas and New Year. Officials say there has been a significant rush this year with both domestic and foreign tourists visiting Shimla and nearby tourist destinations of Kullu, Manali and Kufri. Tourists, mostly from southern and northern states, visit Shimla to enjoy the cold weather. Vice-Chairman of Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Board, Vijay Singh Mankotia said hotels were offering discounts to lure the visitors. Restoration work of first astro turf in Kashmir nears completion

Srinagar, Dec 27 (ANI): Kashmir will soon boast of a football astro turf as authorities gear up to complete the restoration work. The newly constructed stadium in Srinagar was badly damaged in September in the worst flooding in more than a century. The state's sports council, which is carrying out the repairs, has laid the turf again. Officials say the stadium will be ready in a month's time to host international football matches. Manager of Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council -Synthetic Turf Football Stadium, Sheikh Tulal, said the stadium will be thrown open to public once it gets the nod from FIFA (The Federation Internationale de Football Association).
