Camel fest in Rajasthan enthralls tourists

Bikaner, Jan 06 (ANI): Camel race in shimmering sand dunes of Rajasthan enthralled Indian and foreign tourists at the International Camel Festival. Camels, which are also known as the ship of the desert due to their ability to store water for several days, mesmerised the onlookers as they competed with each other with great vigour. The tourists, who arrived in Bikaner district of Rajasthan from western countries like Australia, Germany, Canada and England, were thrilled as they watched the race keenly and enjoyed every moment of it. Apart from camel race, camel dance, camel decoration competitions and camel wrestling, and several village sport events were also organised at the festival. A tourist from Germany, Gehash said he was delighted to witness the camel race. The tourists were fascinated as they saw beautifully decorated camels dance to traditional tunes at the festival, jointly organised by Rajasthan Tourism and Bikaner district administration. Villagers move to relief camps as shelling intensifies along India-Pakistan border

Kathua, Jan 06 (ANI): Hundreds of villagers living along the India-Pakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir moved to relief camps after cross-border firing intensified between the two neighbouring countries. Villagers living along the international border are agitated with Pakistan for violating the ceasefire truce time and again. While hundreds of them left their homes with their belongings on tractors towards safer havens, many others walked to the relief camps. Another villager in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, Balwinder Singh said the government should take initiative to end the border disturbances permanently. Bhopal/ Poonch, Jan 06 (ANI): Security expert said that Pakistan was trying to help militants enter India by firing at border posts in Jammu and Kashmir. Indian and Pakistani troops intensified cross-border firing overnight, even as one Indian border guard died in the firing. A senior Indian official with the border security force said they had retaliated against machine gun and mortar attacks on about 60 positions along a more than 200-km (125-mile) stretch of the border. A security expert, SR Sinho said that Pakistan was helping militants infiltrate in Indian Territory as they were planning something big before January 26. Amid the growing hostility, India's security agencies last week declared a nationwide alert to avoid militant strikes in the lead-up to visits by top US diplomat John Kerry and President Barack Obama later in January. One BSF jawan killed in fresh ceasefire violations by Pak rangers

Samba, Jan 05 (ANI): One BSF jawan was martyred in fresh ceasefire violations by Pakistani Rangers at Hiranagar in Samba sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. Pakistani Rangers had violated ceasefire again by targeting border posts in Kathua and Samba sectors, drawing retaliation from BSF. Scared villagers were seen running for refuge during the ceasefire violations in the area. Villagers continued to migrate to safer areas in view of the latest round of ceasefire violations by Pakistan. Over 3,500 villagers have migrated from border villages in Samba and Kathua districts.
