The adjoining tourist spots like Kufri, Narkanda, Kharapathar, Manali, Sangla, Pangi, Rohthang, Kelong and other high hills received 6 to 15 centimetres of fresh snowfall within last five hours. Locals, hoteliers and businessmen are happy as fresh snowfall is likely to boost tourism in the region. The temperature in various hilly regions plummeted to zero and minus levels. In Kelong area of Himachal Pradesh, the temperature dipped to minus nine degree Celsius and in Shimla it has come down to 3 degree Celsius. During winters, holidaying crowd from the plains of India and other parts of the country prefer to throng northern states of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir to experience snowfall. Sopore, Jan 14 (ANI): A fierce encounter broke out on Wednesday morning between the militants and the Indian Army in Jammu and Kashmir's Chakan area of Sopore district. According to reports, one militant is trapped inside one of the houses in the area. The security personnel have cordoned off the locality and carrying out searches at some houses for suspected LeT terrorists, including their commander Abu Huzaifa. A joint operation from Indian army and police is underway where security forces are battling suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists. No casualties were reported till the last reports came in.
