Atheist US blogger killed in machete attack in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Feb 28 (ANI): Social activists in Bangladesh took to streets to protest after machete-wielding assailants hacked to death a blogger in Dhaka, in the latest of a series of attacks on writers who support free thinking values in the Muslim-majority nation. Avijit Roy, a U.S. citizen of Bangladeshi origin, and his wife and fellow blogger, Rafida Ahmed, were attacked on February 26 while returning from a book fair. Ahmed was seriously injured. Spokesperson of a secular platform, Ganajagaran Mancha, Imran H. Sarkar demanded stringent punishment for the assailants. A social activist Khushi Kabir said that killing of Roy meant killing of freedom of thought. Police retrieved two machetes from the site, but have not yet identified any suspects. Feb 28, 2015

Youth turn up in large numbers for army recruitment rally in Tripura

Tripura, Feb 12 (ANI): These youngsters want to join the armed forces for a brighter future. With a strong sense of patriotism and an urge to serve their country, these young men gathered at the Dasarath Dev Stadium in Agartala to participate in a recruitment rally being conducted by the Indian army. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar who was the chief guest at the event requested the Army to organize such recruitment drives on a regular basis. Artists celebrate Amitabh Bachchan's film characters on canvas

Vadodara, Feb 04 (ANI): Artists in Gujarat painted portraits of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, depicting the array of characters played by him in his films so far. The event was organized ahead of the release of his upcoming Bollywood film 'Shamitabh'. On Friday (February 06), when the movie releases, an exhibition will be held at a mall in Vadodara city, showcasing these paintings for the movie buffs coming to watch 'Shamitabh'. Around 20 artists gathered to paint Bachchan's characters from various films. The event encouraged local talent while giving them a chance to paint the legend of Bollywood. The event organiser, Giri Sharma, said such events provide great opportunity to the artists. Artists sketched portraits of their favourite star from films like 'Anand'and 'Sarkar' with much delight.
