State of emergency declared in Charlotte after violent protests at police killing

A state of emergency was declared in the town of Charlotte, North Carolina, on 21 September after a man was shot and left in a serious condition during protests over the police killing of an African American. Keith Lamont Scott was shot by police and the circumstances of his death are being investigated. Riot police fired tear gas at the protesters amid skirmishes, looting and smashed windows. Sep 22, 2016
