Vladimir Putin: Russia can make powerful Syria comeback within hours

Vladimir Putin said on 17 March that Russias military success in Syria had allowed him to order a partial draw down of forces, but stressed the Kremlin could scale up its presence again within hours and would continue to carry out air strikes there. Denmark tops the world’s happiest countries list

Denmark overtook Switzerland as the happiest place, according to a report on 16 March, and urged nations regardless of wealth to tackle inequality, protect the environment and keep their countrys social fabric from tearing apart. The 65-page report, prepared by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and the Earth Institute at Columbia University, showed that Syria, Afghanistan and eight sub-Saharan countries were rated the 10 least happy places on earth to live. Kiev: Protesters demand release for Nadezhda Savchenko detained in Russia

Protesters gathered outside the Russian embassy in Kiev on 9 March to demand the release of a Ukrainian female pilot Nadezhda Savchenko detained in Russia. Protesters urged Moscow to free Savchenko, a Ukrainian pilot on trial in Russia on charges of complicity in the killing of two Russian journalists. Savchenko, 34, was captured by pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine in June 2014. She denies any wrongdoing. Mar 10, 2016
