India, Bangladesh sign treaty to curb cross-border crime

Agartala, Feb 05 (ANI): India and Bangladesh officials signed an agreement on real-time information sharing to curb cross-border crime at the two-day district-level border conference in Tripura. A wide range of issues like smuggling, trans-border crime, insurgent movement, narcotics, human trafficking, and cattle lifting were discussed between officials of the countries. Jayant Sinha calls for innovative ideas to tackle environmental problems

New Delhi, Feb 04 (ANI): Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha on Wednesday called for sustainable development, stressing on the need to adopt innovative ideas to solve environmental problems. Addressing the 15th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit in New Delhi, Sinha said that water scarcity, pollution and climate change were major challenges to sustainable development. Sinha invited country's entrepreneurs and innovators to bring about a change in several important areas like power, transportation, etc. He also stressed on the need to put solar panels, electric cars to better use in order to prevent pollution. India, the world's third largest carbon emitter, is reluctant to follow the United States and China in committing to a peak year for emissions on the grounds it needs economic growth to alleviate poverty. Heavy snowfall disrupts normal life in Kashmir

Ramban/ Shimla, Feb 04 (ANI): Heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir hit electricity, water and blocked national highway, disrupting normal life. Roads in Ramban area were filled with snow making it difficult for vehicles to ply due to which people had to walk long distances carrying their luggage. National Highway-44 was completely blocked, restricting transportation. State's capital city, Srinagar, on Sunday (February 01) had received season's first snowfall bringing cheers to residents. However, snowfall did not bring much delight to residents of Ramban district. As per local media reports, the weather department has predicted snowfall for next three days. The minimum temperature recorded was minus 0.2 degree Celsius. Reportedly, an avalanche warning has also been issued in higher reaches of the valley. Meanwhile, hill town of Shimla also received three to 90 centimeters of fresh snowfall. Minimum temperature recorded was two degree Celsius.
