People revel in Holi celebrations in Uttar Pradesh

Mathura/ Varanasi, Mar 02 (ANI): Daubed in colours, people celebrated festival of colours, 'Holi', with pageantry in Uttar Pradesh. People threw powered colours and sprayed coloured water on each other while celebrating 'Lathmar Holi' in Uttar Pradesh. As per traditions, women beat men with sticks while celebrating the festival. Devotees thronged Mathura city, birthplace of Hindu Lord Krishna, to revel in celebrations. Lord Krishna is believed to have come to the earth to destroy an evil king called Kansa, who was his maternal uncle, and ruled some parts of northern India. Holi will be celebrated on March 06 however people of Mathura city mark the festival for eight days. In a special programme, performers were dressed as Lord Krishna and consort Radha. Meanwhile, spirits were high in holy city of Varanasi too as devotees celebrated Holi with colours, sweets and bhang (cannabis). Family of four electrocuted in Maharashtra

Nanded, March 02 (ANI): Four members of a family died of an electric shock in a slum in Nanded district of Maharashtra. Among the dead were a man, a woman and two toddlers. The unfortunate incident occurred when the family was sleeping on an iron bed in the night when due to rain water current circulated in the entire house. A relative of the deceased family members, Zahed said the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) officials demand bribe whenever residents approach them for installing meters. Meanwhile, a neighbour of the deceased, Mohammed Ansari, said this was not the first time that someone had been electrocuted in the area. Mar 2, 2015

Water tanker mows down two people in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Feb 27 (ANI): Two people were killed when a water tanker travelling at a high speed knocked down pedestrians and a stationary motorcycle at a traffic signal in Bengaluru. The accident, which took place near a mall on Bangalore International Airport Road was caught in a CCTV camera near the site. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of East Traffic Division, MNBR Prasad, confirmed two deaths. The driver of the tanker has been arrested and was produced before the magistrate, Prasad informed. The pedestrian, identified as Arpitha, succumbed to her injuries in the hospital while another person riding pillion on a motorcycle, Anand, died on the spot.
