New Delhi, Feb 08 (ANI): After the NITI Aayog meeting ended, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday said that the meeting was extremely useful in that Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized on empowerment of the states. Jaitley said that the PM gave opening comments thereafter each states gave their opinions. He said that the opening comments were in context of governing model and that the PM said that priorities are growth, investment, jobs and decentralization. He also said that Modi emphasized that economic activities should be in the states and there should be flexibility of states. New Delhi, Feb 8 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday (February 08) chaired the first meeting of the governing council of National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) in New Delhi. The formation of the forum was announced on August 15, 2014 by Modi during his maiden Independence Day address from the ramparts of the historic Red Fort. Modi has accused 65-year-old Planning Commission of stifling growth with Soviet-style bureaucracy. The NITI will act more like a think tank or forum, in contrast with the Commission which imposed five-year-plans and allocated resources to hit set economic targets. Feb 8, 2015

Arunachal Pradesh, Feb 08 (ANI): Mandarin Orange is the oldest cultivated major fruit of Arunachal Pradesh. If occupies over 45 per cent of total area under fruit crops and contributes about 57 per cent of total fruit production in the state. Area expansion in Mandarin orange is being taken up in Siang district, Lohit, Dibang Valley, East Kameng districts and Dambuk valley. Recently, a two-day long orange festival under the theme ‘poetic in nature’ was held at Dambuk valley. The Festival was held inside an orange orchard with around 200 orange trees attracting the local people as well visitors from other districts. Chief Minister Nabam Tuki inaugurated the event. Various cultural troupes from different tribes like Adis, Misings and Idus performed their colorful traditional dances and songs. American artist Scott Moses Murray, Guru Rewben from Manipur, Taba Chake from Arunachal Pradesh and many other music bands enthralled the audience with their music. India will play key role in Paris summit: French Foreign Minister

New Delhi, Feb 06 (ANI): India will play a pivotal role in the success of December 2015 Conference of Parties in Paris, said French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius in New Delhi. Fabius met Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar and said that major issues between the two countries needed to be tackled before the conference. Earlier in the day, Fabius attended the annual sustainable development summit and said that a global deal to curb carbon emissions must recognise each country's right to develop. He had said efforts to reach an agreement would fail if any country believed it would hurt their economic prospects.
