It happens: Handicraft Fair

Siliguri, Jan 3 (ANI): A vast variety of exquisite, traditional artifacts by more than 400 artisans from across India's eastern West Bengal state attracts a steady stream of visitors to the ongoing handicraft fair. The month-long exhibition organised by the state government aims at providing a platform to small-scale artisans where they can showcase their products and provide a boost to their business which is not exposed to bigger markets. The artisans proudly displayed the fruits of their labour. A wide array of ethnic products including hand embroidered products, Tibetan art products, wooden items and a wide array clay and mud items were displayed at various stalls. The fair offers a unique opportunity to the people of the state to have direct interaction with the artisans and weavers from all over the country and purchase goods without any middle men. Drinking tea cuts mortality risk by 30%

New Delhi, Oct 16 (ANI): Scientists suggest that drinking a regular cup of tea or coffee can help you live longer. Researchers have found that a diet packed with polyphenols - potent antioxidant compounds contained in the drinks - can lower the "risk of several chronic diseases and overall mortality.” Experts from Barcelona University studied 807 men and women aged 65 or over from central Italy for 12 years. The researchers recorded a 30 percent reduction in mortality among a group of participants who had a high intake of polyphenols. The compounds occur naturally in fruits, vegetables, nuts and cereals as well as tea and coffee. More than 8,000 different types have been identified in plants. They have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects. Oct 16, 2013
