Bhubaneswar, Oct 9 (ANI): Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursady held a review meeting in the wake of the 'Cyclone Hudhud' alert issued for the state. Meanwhile, the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC), which is chaired by Union Cabinet Secretary Ajit Kumar Seth, also reviewed the preparedness for dealing with the aftermath of Cyclone Hudhud, which is likely to hit the coasts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh on October 12. The Cabinet Secretary asked representatives of all Central Ministries, Departments and Chief Secretaries of the concerned State Governments to take necessary steps for preparedness to meet any eventuality from the cyclone. In wake of the cyclonic storm "Hudhud", the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has placed its five Battalions situated at Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal and Bihar on high alert. Bhubaneshwar, Oct 8 (ANI): Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday said that all preparations have been done to meet any eventuality arising out of the possible cyclonic storm hitting the state's coast, and added that contingency plans are in place to face the situation. Meanwhile, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Commander M K Yadav informed that his team is ready for any challenge that may arise if the state is hit by cyclone. According to reports from the Meteorological Department, the state government has been informed that Cyclone Hudhud is heading toward north Andhra Pradesh and Odisha and is set to hit the coast by October 12. Meteorological department releases cyclone warning in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Oct 07 (ANI): Meteorological department in Odisha released a warning on Tuesday for a cyclone developing over the Bay of Bengal and expected to hit the state's coast by October 12. In October 2013, Cyclone Phailin - country's fiercest storm in 14 years - had smashed into the coastline of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, flooded swathes of farmland and ripped apart tens of thousands of mud-and-thatch homes. Director of Meteorological Department in Bhubaneswar city, Sarat Chandra Sahu said the depression would move in a West-North-westerly direction and intensify into a deep depression within 24 hours and further intensify into a cyclonic storm thereafter. Classical dance festival entices audiences in eastern India

Bhubaneswar, Sept.19 (ANI): The latest edition of classical Odissi dance Ashtapadi festival kicked off in India's eastern Bhubaneswar city, pays an ode to Sanskrit poet Jayadev from the 12th century. The Ashtapadi festival was inaugurated by Odisha Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik. The fourth edition of the festival includes some of the best known names in Odissi genre. Prior to the dance festival, a book 'Sampoorna Geeta Govinda', authored by noted scholar of Odisha's cultural heritage and musician Dr Subas Pani was released by the Chief Minister. The performing arts festival features Odisha's classical dance Odissi dance performances and vocal recitals of all twenty four songs of Jayadeva's Geetagovinda. Dr.Subas was hopeful that the colourful festival will provide a complete aesthetic experience to the audiences. The festival has been mounted by Sri Geeta Govinda Pratishtana of Puducherry, which has been making its presence felt across the country over the last few years with elaborate dance events dedicated to the 12th century epic of Jayadeva. Sudarsan Patnaik appeals for release of Irom Sharmila through art

Puri, Aug 24 (ANI): India_s renowned sand artist Sudarsan Patnaik on Sunday (August 24) created a sand sculpture of the fasting activist, Irom Sharmila with a message _Free the Iron Lady from the Iron grill_ at Puri beach of Odisha. Patnaik appealed through his art to release Irom Sharmila. He created a five feet high sand sculpture by showing the face of Sharmila with Iron grills and Pattnaik has used about 4 tonne of sand in it. Human Rights activist, Irom Sharmila, who has been on a hunger strike for the last 14 years, was rearrested by northeastern Manipuri police on Friday. Aug 24, 2014
