Left calls off alliance with AIADMK, CPI take it not as setback

New Delhi, March 07 (ANI): After Left parties called off alliance with AIADMK following the later warming up to BJP, CPI leader D Raja said that this is not a setback for the party and that the left will continue to forge a non-Congress, non-BJP alliance in Tamil Nadu. Further, he said that the parties are expecting atleast 3 seats each by DMK which they are not able to provide and so any alliance with the party is not confirmed. Chennai, Feb 26 (ANI): The supporters of Tamil National Alliance (TNA) took to streets in Chennai against Supreme Court's stay on release of three convicts in Rajiv Gandhi's assassination case. Police in Chennai detained few of the protesters, who were shouting anti-Congress slogans, to bring the situation under control. Members of the regional Tamil National Alliance (TNA) supported Jayalalithaa's decision of releasing the three convicts after the apex court commuted their death sentence to a life term. Jayalalithaa to counter centre in SC over Rajiv Gandhi case

Chennai, Feb 24 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, on Monday said that the provincial government would oppose the review petition filed by the central government in Supreme Court over release of Rajiv Gandhi’s assassins. Central government filed a petition at the Supreme Court arguing that Jayalalithaa's government did not have the power to free the Tamil convicts. The court blocked the chief minister from releasing three of them until the case was resolved and scheduled a hearing for March 6. Chennai/ Coimbatore/ New Delhi, Feb 20 (ANI): Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa triggered outrage in the Congress and elsewhere after the state government decided to release all seven assassins of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. This comes a day after Supreme Court of India commuted death sentences of three accused in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination to life term because of an 11-year delay in deciding on their petitions for mercy. The Supreme Court had granted powers to the Tamil Nadu government to exercise its remission powers under the sections 432 and 433 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPc).
