Congress party's women wing stages protest against alarming rape cases in MP

Bhopal, June 15 (ANI): Congress Party's Women Wing took to streets protesting against the spate of growing rape cases in Madhya Pradesh. The protesters of Congress Women's wing led by its chief Shobha Oza demanded the resignation of state Home Minister Babulal Gaur and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan over growing rape cases in the state. Oza said the state government of Madhya Pradesh had shown disrespect for women by manhandling them during a peaceful protest. Amid growing public resentment over the gang-rape and hanging of two teenage girls in Uttar Pradesh, Gaur had described rape as a social crime and said "sometimes it's right, sometimes it's wrong". Almora police steps up security after Maoists threaten people to boycott polls

Almora, May 01 (ANI): Police in Almora city of Uttarakhand beefed up security and deployed additional forces after some Maoist forces pasted posters on walls threatening people to boycott ongoing parliamentary polls. The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Anant Ram Chauhan, said that a case has been registered against unknown persons for putting up posters and added that the police are on a look-out for the people involved. The messages written on posters called for a change in the system, mocked the democracy and called for a revolution. As Uttarakhand will go to polls in the eighth phase on May 07, hectic campaigning is currently underway in the parliamentary constituencies but the threat by Maoists through posters has set alarm bells ringing among the leaders. Election commission bans Ramdevs camp over honeymoon remark

Himachal Pradesh / Punjab/ New Delhi, April 29 (ANI): Election Commission of India on Tuesday (April 29) banned another camp of yoga guru, Ramdev in Himachal Pradesh, over his ‘honeymoon remark’. Ramdev, in Lucknow had said that Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi visits Dalit households for picnics and honeymoon, which deeply offended the concerned community and triggered a storm. Chief electoral officer of Himachal Pradesh, Narinder Chauhan, said holding yoga camps with an intention to support any political party is prohibited. Following derogatory remarks of Ramdev, the Election Commission earlier banned him from conducting meetings and programmes in Lucknow. Meanwhile, Congress leader Meem Afzal called for Ramdev’s arrest as he violated Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Act. Senior lawyer, Majid Memon, said Ramdev should not make statements, as he is not affiliated to any party. Apr 29, 2014
