John Glenn: First American astronaut to orbit Earth dies at 95

John Glenn, former astronaut and US senator, died on 8 December in Ohio. He was 95. The ex-Marine was admitted at a hospital for over a week. He is survived by his children and wife. Glenn was hailed as an American hero and a symbol of the space age when he became the first American to orbit Earth in 1962. He was the last survivor of the original Mercury 7 astronauts. Dec 9, 2016

They were calling for the abolition of a law that allows rapists to marry their victims in order to escape sentencing, known as Article 522. The Russian Ministry of Defence has strongly condemned a deadly attack on a Russian mobile hospital in Aleppo, blaming the USA, the UK and France. On 5 December a Russian mobile hospital was hit by mortar fire, killing a female Russian medical worker and injuring other workers and civilians.
