Kolkata, July 17 (ANI): The sales of Haleem, a creamy meat delicacy usually made with mutton and lentils, have surged during the holy month of Ramadan, tantalizing the taste buds of Muslims in Kolkata as the fast is broken with special foods at sundown. Foodies in Kolkata, which is known for its plethora of food options ranging from snacks to main course, travel to special joints for taking a bite of the dish. Ramadan has spurred sales of Haleem across the city as it makes a full meal for fasting Muslims due to the nutritive value of its ingredients like meat, pure ghee backed by the right choice of spices, wheat, clarified butter and dry fruits. Haleem literally means _patience_ because it involves long hours of preparation. It is made of wheat, mutton, gram pulse, curd, onions and vegetable oil with sprinkling of spices. It is served with lemon juice. Eating joint owners said they usually run out of Haleem, which is made only during Ramadan, in less than three hours, well before the breaking of the fast. Jul 17, 2014

Srinagar, July 05 (ANI): The sharp hike in the prices of essential commodities during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan has dampened the festive spirit in Kashmir. During the holy month, consumption of these essential commodities increases automatically as compared to other months. Another resident, Farooq Ahmad blaming the government said that the price of vegetables and fruits varies on a daily basis. Soaring prices of basic goods such as milk and potatoes lifted retail food inflation in May to 9.4 percent and there have been fears of worse to come with the delayed spread of the monsoon to the grain bowl region of northwest India. India reintroduces onion export price to help curb inflation

New Delhi/Chandigarh, June 18 (ANI): India on Tuesday set a minimum export price for onions of $300 per tonne to discourage overseas shipments amid an inflation scare that threatens to stoke public anger over rising prices at local food markets. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made tackling inflation as his top priority after widespread resentment about rising prices contributed to the exit of the previous government last month. After wholesale price inflation accelerated to a five-month high in May, the new government imposed the price rule on onions three months after the previous administration withdrew it. After a meeting with the representatives of various ministries on Tuesday, he said certain measures have been advised to the states to crackdown on hoarders.
