Encounter underway in J and K's Sopore area, two terrorists reportedly trapped

Sopore, Jan 18 (ANI): A gun battle between the security forces and militants is currently underway in Sopore area of Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces cordoned off Saidpora village in Sopore following information about presence of militants in the area, a police officer said. According to reports, as the forces closed on the target house, the militants opened fire which was retaliated, triggering off the gunbattle. At least two militants are believed to be trapped inside the cordoned area, the officer said, adding there were no casualties on either side so far. Security stepped up in Kashmir ahead of Obama's visit

Srinagar, Jan 16 (ANI): Security has been strengthened in Jammu and Kashmir in view of US President Barack Obama's visit later in January for Republic Day celebrations. Inspector General of paramilitary Central Police Reserve Force (CRPF), SK Bhandari, said that the force was leaving no stone unturned to ensure full-proof security. Bhandari said infiltration bids are likely to rise in the state ahead of the high-profile visit. Reportedly, the security forces on Friday captured a dreaded terrorist belonging to the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) from Choora area in Jammu and Kashmir's Sopore district. Sopore, Jan 14 (ANI): A fierce encounter broke out on Wednesday morning between the militants and the Indian Army in Jammu and Kashmir's Chakan area of Sopore district. According to reports, one militant is trapped inside one of the houses in the area. The security personnel have cordoned off the locality and carrying out searches at some houses for suspected LeT terrorists, including their commander Abu Huzaifa. A joint operation from Indian army and police is underway where security forces are battling suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists. No casualties were reported till the last reports came in. Pakistan's Supreme Court denies bail to 26/11 Mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi

Islamabad, Jan 07 (ANI): The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday setting aside Islamabad High Court's (IHC) decision, denied suspension of the detention of Lashkar-e-Taiba commander, Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, accused of plotting the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. According to the media reports, Pak SC declared IHC's order of releasing Lakhvi from jail as void and opined that the decision to grant bail to Lakhvi was taken in a hurry. The reports further stated that, Pak SC directed IHC to hear arguments of Lakhvi's lawyer and the Central Government of Pakistan. Earlier, the Islamabad High Court had ordered conditional release of Lakhvi and had asked him to deposit a security bond of Rs 1 million in response to his petition seeking an end to his detention. New Delhi, Jan 02 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Friday after Lashkar-e-Toiba operative and 26/11 Mumbai attack mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi was sent to 14 days' judicial custody. The decision came after Pakistan government moved the Supreme Court earlier on Thursday protesting the detention suspension order issued by the Islamabad high court.
