Udhampur, Sep 10 (ANI): Three terrorists were killed in an encounter that broke out in Keran sector of Kupwara District on Wednesday morning. The encounter operation was launched by the army after they had specific information about their movement in the Keran sector. The identity of the terrorists is not yet known. PRO Defence, S D Goswami said that three militants have been killed in the Kishanganj range near Line of Control. He further said that they have recovered three AK-47 rifles, 15 magazines and 319 rounds of ammunitions. Sep 10, 2014

Irom Sharmila arrested again by police in Manipur on charges of attempting suicide

Manipur, Aug 22 (ANI): A struggling and screaming Irom Sharmila was dragged away from a tin shack by a team of police women on Friday morning. Sharmila, who was released from police custody on Thursday evening, was planning to observe a fast at the venue over a demand for the withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA). She has been arrested again on charges of attempting suicide. Earlier, the police women were quoted by media, as saying that they were taking her for a medical check-up. When she resisted, they forcibly took a hold of her hands and legs and carried her to a police jeep and drove her away. Forty-two-year-old Sharmila has said that she is continuing with her 14-year fast in protest against "army atrocities" in Manipur. Bandipora, Aug 21 (ANI): Police recovered large cache of sophisticated arms and ammunition from a parked car on a roadside in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. Superintendent of Police, Muhammad Shafi, said the weapons were hidden in a vehicle in Bandipora district of the state. Police recovered seven AK-47 rifles, 15 AK magazines, 316 AK rounds, five Chinese pistols, 13 Chinese pistol rounds, 12 Chinese grenades, an under-barrel rocket launcher (UBRL) and 74 UBGL shells during a routine check up. Court orders release of Manipuri activist Irom Sharmila

New Delhi, Aug 19 (ANI): A sessions court in Manipur, Tuesday, ordered the immediate release of civil rights activist Irom Sharmila, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike demanding repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act for the past 13 years. The 42-year-old _Iron Lady_ of Manipur was kept under house arrest following fears that she wants to commit suicide. She is being nose-fed by the state government at a government hospital, which was converted into a jail for her. The Manipuri government had slapped an attempt to suicide case on her. The court said that it is just an allegation that she wants to commit suicide, hence she cannot be kept under arrest and should be released immediately. Sharmila has been on indefinite hunger strike to demand repeal of the Act after killing of 10 civilians allegedly by the Assam Rifles near Imphal airport in November 2000. Aug 19, 2014

Palamu, Aug 19 (ANI): In a joint operation, officials of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and police recovered arms and ammunition including three rifles, life cartridges and two bombs during clashes with Maoists in Jharkhand. The security personnel clashed with Communist Party of India-Maoists (CPI-M) on Monday night (August 18) in Palamu district and also recovered 33 different SIM cards, mobile phones and solar charger.
