2 French trekkers remain untraceable in HP, fifth search operation called off

Dharamshala, Sep 21 (ANI): Police called off the fifth unsuccessful search operation to trace the two French trekkers who went missing last year in the mountains of Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh and remain untraceable. Valentin Marcel Gorges and Francois Xavier Camille trekked to Tirund Hill in the city on August 22 last year with a group of 32 members. The two went missing after they decided to trek further to scale Moon Peak and separated from the group. Several teams of the state police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Army helicopters conducted a month-long massive manhunt and scoured the Dhauladhar hills but remained unsuccessful in tracing the missing duo. The search was resumed on September 16 by a 27 member team comprising mountaineering experts, state police, local trekkers and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Sep 21, 2014

Kashmir evacuees reunite with their families back home

Faizabad/ Bhopal/ New Delhi, Sep 14 (ANI): A number of evacuees returned safely back home and reunite with their families and loved ones while Sikh temples in Delhi send packed food items prepared in the community kitchen to victims of flood-ravaged Kashmir. The pilgrims who returned gave credit to the Indian army and Modi government for their safe rescue. The pilgrims were then airlifted from helipad at Governor's house to the airport in helicopters, from where they were flown to their destinations. J and K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announces relief package for flood victims

Srinagar, Rajouri, Sept 13 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah announced a total package of Rs 200 crore for the state after it was hit by the worst floods in the last 60 years which claimed more than 200 lives in the region, besides causing immense loss of property. Omar announced a package of Rs 100 crore each to the Jammu and Kashmir division for relief and rehabilitation activities. He said Rs 3.5 Lakh will be given to the family members of those who died in the disaster. Abdullah also announced financial assistance of Rs. 75,000 as initial installment for those who lost their homes and free ration for six months. Meanwhile, Air Force helicopters were dropping relief materials to far flung areas in Rajouri district of the state which was cut-off for the last 10 days. Sep 13, 2014

IAF evacuates more than 2200 people from flood hit J&K, working to supply relief materials

New Delhi, Sep 09 (ANI): IAF Spokesperson Group Captain Gerard Galway on Tuesday said that the force have evacuated more than 2200 people from flood hit Jammu & Kashmir, including 800 who have been winched up. Galway said that a total of 50 aircraft and 30 helicopters are providing relief materials in the affected region and is working for the rescue of the stranded people. Srinagar, Sep 09 (ANI): Thousands of people rescued from the flood hit areas of Kashmir, lauded the Indian Army for its commendable operation in bringing them to safety. Some 2,500 communities are destroyed or partially underwater, while thousands of people are stranded on their rooftops still waiting for rescue. Major flooding following heavy rains caught people in low-lying areas off guard and nearly 5,000 people had to be rescued by the army. About 22 Air force helicopters and four aircraft were deployed to evacuate the stranded people and to deliver relief. About 120 army units and eight teams of police reservists, equipped with boats and life jackets, were in action. Jammu And Kashmir/New Delhi, Sep 08 (ANI): Indian army, air force and personnel of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescued more than 5000 people from flood-hit areas in Jammu and Kashmir and set up relief camps on Monday. The death toll from serious flooding in Kashmir climbed to 175 with homes, military bases and hospitals inundated in the region's main city Srinagar as the Jhelum river overflowed its banks. Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed floods a national level disaster and announced 11 billion rupees in disaster relief payments, as well as compensation to victims and their relatives. Singh further said that additional 62 boats were deployed as 108 were already pressed into service in the state.
