100 companies responsible for more than 70% of global emissions

According to a new CDP report, just 100 companies are the source of over 70% of emissions. Since 1988, more than half of all global industrial emissions were produced by 25 corporate and state-owned entities. Of these entities, ExxonMobil, Shell, BP and Chevron are among the most polluting investor-owned companies. Consequently, these companies will play a huge role in driving climate change-- if fossil fuels were to be extracted at the same rate in the next 28 years as they have in the past 28 years, the global average temperature is on track to increase 4ºC by the end of the century. The catastrophic consequences of such global warming would entail massive species extinction and risk global food scarcity. Jul 11, 2017
