Following the deferring of the hearing, Jayalalithaa, who is lodged in VVIP cell number 23 at Parappana Agrahara central prison in Bangalore, will have to continue in jail for at least a week. Though the bail plea has been admitted by the court, the hearing on the petition will not take place before Monday. Jayalalithaa loyalist O Panneerselvam sworn-in as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister

Chennai, Sep 29 (ANI): AIADMK leader and former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's loyalist O Panneerselvam was on Monday sworn in as the new chief minister of Tamil Nadu. Panneerselvam, succeeds J Jayalalithaa who has been sentenced to four years imprisonment in Disproportionate Assets Case. Panneerselvam's oath taking was administered by Governor K Rosaiah after which his cabinet colleagues were sworn in. Panneerselvam and his cabinet ministers, including Natham R Vishwanathan and R Vaithilingam, were in tears during the oath taking ceremony. Panneerselvam took the oath along with 31 MLAs. O Panneerselvam to be next Tamil Nadu CM

Chennai, Sept 28 (ANI): A day after a special court in Bangalore convicted and sentenced J Jayalalithaa to four years imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case, O Panneerselvam was chosen to be Tamil Nadu's new chief minister. The decision was taken at a meeting of AIADMK MLAs at the party headquarters in Chennai on Sunday. Earlier, J Jayalalithaa had conveyed to senior party colleagues that her choice as the state's next CM is her close aide O Panneerselvam. Panneerselvam was also earlier elevated to the position of chief minister in 2001 when Jayalalithaa had to step down following her conviction in the Tansi land deal case; she was subsequently acquitted.
