Sports events help hone the skills of budding players in Manipur

Manipur, Dec 23 (ANI): Archers from Manipur have always made India proud in the international arena. And, to hone to skills of budding players in the state, the Assam Rifles took a step forward to organize an archery competition. Seventy two archers from 16 teams participated in the individual and team events at Assam Rifles Archery Range in Imphal. The Assam Rifles Archery team won the title. Similarly, efforts are high on to improve the standard of football in schools. Recently, a 5-day long event was held in Imphal to sharpen the skills of under-17 girls as they participated in the 60th National School Games. Held under the aegis of Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Manipur, 20 teams from various states participated in the championship at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium. Events like these help the sports authorities to identify the young talents who can later be trained for international events. Dec 23, 2014

Defence Expert hails Army for indicting 9 soldiers in killing of Kashmiri youths in Budgam firing

New Delhi, Nov 27 (ANI): Defence Expert Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Raj Kadyan hailed Indian Army for indicting nine soldiers including a Junior Commissioned Officer of 53 Rashtriya Rifles for killing two youths in Chattergam Chadoora area of Budgam district on November 3. Kadyan said that this shows that Army carries on its work with full dedication and without any bias. He also said that the course of action is to be seen as to what action the Army takes. He also assured that Army will give whatever punishment that should be meted out to them. The army completed its inquiry into the firing incident in which two Kashmiri youths had lost their lives, while two others were injured and found gross violation by the jawans. The Court of Inquiry recommended court martial proceedings against them. Nov 27, 2014

Festivals in the Northeast promote unity and brotherhood

Manipur, Nov 23 (ANI): The vibrant folk dances performed by these tribal reflects their joy and happiness. The Kuki, Chin and Mizo tribes came together at the Manipur Rifles Ground to celebrate 'Chavang-Kut', the autumn post harvest festival. The thanksgiving festival shows gratitude to the almighty for a bountiful harvest with an offering of songs and dances. Audiences were enthralled by various folk and warrior dances. The main attraction was the Miss Kut 2014 beauty pageant contest. Participants from different communities, dressed in their best ethnic attires, walked the ramp. Lamneimoi Chongloi, won the tiara of Miss Kut 2014. In Shillong, 5 day-long "Nongkrem Dance" a post harvest festival of the Khasi tribe was recently celebrated at the Iing Sad the royal palace of High Priestess of the state of Khyrim.
