Agriculture sector in the Northeast to benefit from scientific practices

Assam, Dec 04 (ANI): Endowed with rich natural resources and suitable climatic conditions, the Northeast region provides a perfect environment for the cultivation of vegetables and fruits. While it has huge potential in horticulture production, the region has to depend on other states due to lack of good quality seedlings. In a move to be self-reliant, the first of its kind agri hub nursery was inaugurated at the horticulture farm on Assam Agriculture University campus in Jorhat. It has been developed at a cost of Rs. 15 crores financed under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojana. The nursery will annually produce 48 lakhs seedlings of various vegetables and seasonal flowers. This new project will give a huge boost to production and ultimately help in generating more income for the farmers. Dec 4, 2014

New Delhi, Nov 26 (ANI): A large number of traders from Afghanistan and Nepal have displayed their products at the ongoing 34th India International Trade Fair - 2014. Visitors are flocking to the Afghanistan pavilion to get the best quality dry fruits and carpets. Exhibitors from neighbouring Nepal also displayed their products, especially the pashmina shawls. The chairperson of the India Trade and Promotion Organisation, Rita Menon, thinks this year's IITF would be a good experience for SAARC countries, especially Afghanistan and Nepal. "White" carbohydrates such as pasta, bread, rice and potatoes should be avoided and substituted with whole grains, brown rice and fruits and vegetables and limit portion sizes. Cake mixing ceremony in Vishakhapatnam heralds advent of Christmas spirit

Visakhapatnam, Nov 23 (ANI): Christmas and New Year celebrations began with the cake mixing ceremony as 150 kilograms of dry fruits were mixed with 24 litres of the finest spirits in The Gateway Hotel in Vishakhapatnam. At the hotel's lobby, scores of visitors participated in the annual ritual and enthusiastically arranged and mixed the colourful dry fruit with rum, vodka, brandy and other spirits. Chef Sarat Chandra Bannerjee said that this was organised to resume normal life after cyclone Hudhud struck the city in October. Meanwhile, tourists from Russia who participated in the ceremony said they thoroughly enjoyed participating in such a unique ceremony.
