Philately exhibition displaying world's first, rare stamps draws crowd in Kochi

Kochi, Nov 28 (ANI): Some unique and rare collections of stamps ranging from world's first ‘Penny Black' to the oldest ones along with India's heritage stamps were on display at a philately exhibition in Kerala. The two-day exhibition called ‘Kochipex 2014', which pulled sizeable crowd including school children to veteran philatelists, began on Thursday in Kochi. Stamps depicting Jesus Christ's life (birth to resurrection) and painter-sculptor Leonardo da Vinci's ‘Vitrovian Man' were also on display at the exhibition. The exhibition that started with a ceremonial function was a visual treat for the enthusiasts and stamp collectors. The exhibition also gave a chance to exhibit collection of coins and Indian rupee notes for the collectors. Stamps carrying photos of India's former politicians and greats like Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Mahatma Gandhi among others also attracted visitors. M Venkateswarlu, Post Master-General, central region of India Post said that such exhibitions should be organised regularly across the country to encourage the hobby of collecting stamps, especially among students. Catholics in New Delhi carry out procession to mark feast of 'Christ the King'

New Delhi, Nov 23 (ANI): Catholics from across New Delhi and the neighbouring areas took out a peaceful procession on Sunday to celebrate the feast of 'Christ the King'. The celebration which marks the end of the liturgical year is an annual event and this year it concentrated on burning issues of the country. Father Stanley Kozhichira, former Media Director of Archdiocese of Delhi, said this year the Archdiocese of Delhi is emphasising on issues like violence against women and racism against people of northeastern states. The procession saw hundreds of devotees taking part in it while small children showered flowers and everyone sang devotional songs. Exposition of sacred relics of St Francis Xavier begins in Goa

Goa, Nov 22 (ANI): Scores of devotees converged in coastal state of Goa on Saturday to witness 17th exposition of St Francis Xavier relics. The last exposition was held in 2004. The XVII solemn exposition of the sacred relics will go on till January 04, 2015. The 44-day long exposition of St Francis Xavier, fondly referred to as 'Goencho Saib', began on Saturday with an inaugural ceremony and a procession to shift the relics from the Basilica of Bom Jesus to the Se Cathedral for public veneration. Bishop of Mangalore Aloysius D’souza, who is the main celebrant at the solemn Pontifical Mass addressed the gathering, who came from daily prayers. The exposition is held in every 10 years and this is the 17th event after the first one was held in 1782. Nov 22, 2014

The collage contains significant photographs of Lang which shows photo of his 'Marriage Certificate' with Margaret Wetter, Christ Church of Mussoorie, in India, on May 11, 1861, Lang's final resting place at Camel's Back Road Cemetery in Mussoorie, besides a picture of a 'Commemorative Plaque' in memory of a remarkable Australian's extraordinary Indian journey.
